    Georgia v. Russia

It seems UEFA have decided that Georgia's next home match (v. Russia) will be played behind closed doors after the knike/vodka bottles/ball bearing throwing incidents at the Ireland match.

Seems a tad unfair on Ireland

Bit unfair alright but predictable none the less.

Would be every hard for UEFA to ignore the bottle & knife throwing. Going to hit the Georgian FA fairly hard in the pocket for their biggest game but not much less Uefa could have done...

Suppose only alternative would have been to force them to move the game to a different stadium.

Does us no favours, but a fine would in no way have been appropriate... There's hooliganism and there's knife throwing - if it's only a one-game home ban they've gotten away with, they'll have been very lucky. Making them play behind closed doors is the only way they and the fans will learn.

If it was the other way around and this $hit had gone on in the game before ours would we be happy with a fine? I doubt it.

Except that deducting points from Georgia would do noting to punish them (unless they'd be ashamed to be the first team in UEFA history to finish with a negative points tally). A fine punishes the Georgian FA, but not the fans. Playing behind closed doors hurts the fans, and it's they who've done wrong. We can't complain too much - we did get 3 points there, and Russia could slip up against them even without a crowd.

I've never seen a game played behind closed doors, it must be a weird atmosphere (almost like a training match I suppose). I wonder will that put the Russians off almost as much as a full house of mad Georgians?

To be fair, the Georgians will have more squad players on the sideline than UCD have home fans. If they can get them singing...
