This morning saw the passing of one of the most important people in Waterford football. Frank O' Byrne of the Villa and of course the Waterford Schoolboys League lost his battle with cancer. I only knew him for a short time and only met him through dealings with football but one thing rang through every time we did speak.

This was a man who lived, drank and ate football. I have no doubt that he was the inspiration behind many of the good things that have gone on in Villa and his face will be missed. All players who've passed through Waterford Schoolboys football for the last number of decades will owe him a lot of gratitude. Grassroots don't get any deeper than men like Fran O' Byrne.
