Abbey are a quality side with some junior internationals and ex-LOI players as well. Hibs were missing a couple and are relying on 16 year olds to fill the gaps.

Abbey v Athenry would be a quality final.(Sorry West)

We had a good balance to the team today.Gary Rooney ran the show from the center of the park probably the best game hes played for us in a while. And everyone of the lads did what they were asked. They were a credit to the club today.Like to say thank you to the lads from Hibs for the baskets of food in the pub after the game. And best of luck in the Galway Premier league.

well west are big underdogs al,but i can c them beating manor in the swamp.that means athenry will have 2 come 2 the swamp and i would be 1st 2 admit athenry are by far the best side in galway, but they don't exactly like coming 2 the swamp, put out of the irish cup last year down there and they have also failed 2 win there in there last 3 visits in the league and they won't be let play 2 much pretty football i can assure you,out of all the teams thats left we would probably be the biggest outsiders but stranger things have happened!

Is this by chance Manor Rangers 's best ever season ? Good run in FAI Junior Cup and (so far) Quarter final in Conn Cup. Do not believe from records I have they have ever won Conn Cup, but have they ever been finalist's ?
If correct West Utd's previous final appearances were 81/82 v Southern Wanderers (Roscommon) 2-1, 74/75 5-1 v Westport.
Abbey Utd previous final appearances 93/94 0-2 v Galway Hibs 05/06 v Castlebar Celtic (won on pens).
Athenry current champs 06/07 v Carbury (Sligo) 4-1, only final appearance ?
Athenry going for first club to win 2 in a row since Galway Hibs 99/2000 & 2000/01, and 93/94 & 94/95. Though 2 in a row has been done a few times if correct never 3 or more in a row.

Castlebar Celtic first club to do back to back CC titles 62/63 - 63/64 & 84/85 (also won Youth Cup that year) & 85/86. Hold record for most CC title won with Galway Hibs 9

Pardon my french but it's been a bitch trying to get past final details for Connaught Cup.
Believe may have past final details or near as it.
    If correct Castlebar Celtic past wins were (1.)1946/47 1-0 v Galway Rovers, (2nd Mayo side to win after Westport in 41/42 & 44/45), (2)1954/55 v ? ,(3) 1958/59 2-1 v Sligo Collegians, (4)1959/60 3-0 v Galway O.L.B.C., (5)1963/64 5-2 v Westport, (6)1979/80 3-2 v Mervue United,
    (7)1984/85 3-2 v Mervue Utd, (8)1985/86 v 2-1 v Galway Hibs,(9) 2002/03 ?v? v Moyne Villa
I have Galway OLBC as winners in 1962/63 v ?, as shown above your first back to back was 58/59 & 59/60.
    Believe first back to back was Galway Bohs 1937/38 & 1938/39 which they repeated in 1951/52 & 52/53. 77/78 & 78/79, Slgo Collegians back to back 67/68 & 68/69, and Mervue 89/90 & 90/91.
Would you know who CC beat in 54/55 final ?

Relax lads, my post was meant to be tongue in cheek. It'd be a brilliant achievement if Manor made it to the final. Manor are a very young side and are having one of their best seasons for many a year.

They should finish 2nd in the Sligo/Leitrim Super League, made it to the QF's of the FAI Junior Cup and still in with a shout of the Connaught Cup.

As far as I know Manor have never won the Connaught Cup, defo not in the last 15-20 years. However, they did have an U-17 team that one it once.

The problem in Manorhamilton historically is that soccer has always taken a back seat to Gaelic Football. There's a Senior GAA team and 2 Junior teams in the town that take some good players.

It will be important for Manor to try and keep a hold of their Fermanagh manager next season if they are to progress.

If Manor do beat West will they have a home tie in the semi against Athenry or will it be on neutral ground? Manor seem to be a hell of a lot stronger at home than away this season, only 1 defeat at home in all competitions to date including games against Mervue, Douglas Hall & Abbey United.

Your are correct regarding Celtic. UCG won the cup in 78/79

Just to point out tere has been a Sligo leitrim team in the last 3 finals.Glenview Stars Abbey Utd and Carbury. In fairness tere hasnt been a whole lot said about Castlebar Celtic. But trust me we Abbey wont be taking Castlebar celtic for granted in the semi finals.Everyone of our players know the kind of manager Gavin is he will have his team will set out and organised.Trust me when i say Gavin is held in high regards with us at Abbey utd top manager and top man aswell. We have respect for Celtic but we dont fear them.It will be a good game thats for sure.
