Ever get a call claiming you've won a cash prize?

Got a call last night from a guy claiming to represent the Zambian National bank. He told me that his name was Charles and that i had won a cash prize (whoopieee) all I had to do was provide my crerdit card details and after a small administration fee was paid by myself I would recieve my cash prize!! Cant wait.

Aparently I am very well thought of in Charles' village. He wished all my family and friends prosperity and good health and that if i would only give him my credit card details he would gladly put my family and friends into a draw for ..... a cash prize.

I told Charles that i was not convinced about his claim that i had won a cash prize. He said that he has many credentials from the minister for interior of Zambia and that not to worry and to trust in god and to give him my credit card details so that he can forward my cash price without delay.

Charles told me that it was causing great distress to him and his family that he cant process my cash prize claim. He told me he has personally undertaken to complete this transaction and offers his personal guarantee that my cash prize will be delivered post haste.

I told Charles that i have great distress myself, my dogs s hits all over the garden and i have to clean it up. I also told Charles i sometimes have trouble dropping a load on a monday after a skin full the night before.

Charles said that he understands and if i could only provide my credit card details he would look into it for me ( At this point i doubt Charles' abilty to undertand my accent).

After about another 15 mins of this Charles said he would call back.........

Should I trust Charles... Maybe a mod can make this a poll

You did the right thing telling us. I know that some people have been scammed in similar situations before and you should be careful not to provide your credit card details to someone that solicits you in this manner.

I myself have many friends in the Zambian Interior Ministry so I will be able to verify the cash price that you have won and vouch for Charles' integrity (I believe I know who you are talking about, nice fella). Simply PM me with your credit card details and I will forward them directly to the National Bank of Zambia and arrange the transfer of funds to your account.

Set up a free efax number, ask charles to send you a fax proving his connections with the zambian bank. Then tell Charles that you are still not convinced and get him to take a photo of himself outside the bank holding a sign on which you can ask him to write something to prove it is him, like "I am a mugu sheepshagger". Try to waste his time and make him work his arse off without ever having any intention of giving him any personal details check out www.419eater.com for scambaiting stories and tips.

On the same wavelength, my wife got a call recently, one of the "ore ore" scams going on here in Japan. ("ore ore" translates to "It's me, it's me").

This scam usually targets older people, who answer the phone to hear a voice shouting the above in a scared/confused manner. The voice then tells them that they have been injured/arrested/got in some kind of trouble, and that 2/3 million yen is needed immediately to remedy the situation. The older people are often confused enough to comply, and transfer money asap.

In my wife's case, when questioned, the voice knew her name, her sister's name, her mother's name, and her aunt's name. The didn't know her mother's name maiden name, and then quickly hung up.

But thousands have been tricked.

I got home from work last night about 10.00pm and waited by the phone for Charles to call... he never did. I worry now that i may have missed out on my chance to claim my cash price. he never actually told me how much i had won.

He probably moved on and gave the prize to the next lucky winner.
