No, we should not have a break

Accepting the above, but still think it's bs and defeats the purpose of summer football if you have a break in the middle so players and refs can have a fortnight on the beer.
However, they should wait and see how the fixtures fall before deciding on the weeks. Last time we had full fixtures up against massive games, whilst we were on the break for fixtures like the above. I'd rather the break around the knock out stages if we are to have one - we'll have plenty of notice to reschedule the games around attractive group stage games.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
I remember being at Dundalk vs. Kilkenny last year at the same time as Brazil's quarter final and the crowd was shocking. Yes to a break!![]()

No to a break. The Euro championships won't stop the hard core from going to games. On the night of our game with Kildare last year, it was the night of Argentina v Holland. We won 2-0, the WC game finished 0-0. Which was the better game??

But clubs budget on an annual basis (or at least, should do...!). Therefore - so long as their budgeting is right and their income projections are met, what difference does it make if there's a month break ?? We have a 4 month break between seasons every year, yet nothing goes wrong.
Playing through the Euros and having an otherwise avoidable drop in attendances for a month - now that is something many clubs couldn't afford.
Plus - what's the odds of getting any games televised across that period ? We have something live pretty much every month at the momner, providing more income and publicity for clubs.
The real question is - how many were at that Kildare match, and how many more could you have expected to attract on another night ?
None of our clubs can live off of our hardcore alone.
Sure why don't we schedule the Setanta Cup Final up against the FA Cup Final whilst we're at it....
The experience of the last world cup would indicate that a break would be a good idea but it has to be organised properly. The last time, a midweek series of games was organised straight after the break, when the WC semis were on.![]()
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
Yes, we should have a 2 week break, it gives players, club staff fans and all people heavily involved in their clubs a chance to spend a couple of summer weekends with their families. if Ireland qualify a lot of LOI fans will be gone away following Ireland. If we don't qualify, attempts to get barstoolers off their arses will be even less successful than usual.

Afair, the attendance was less than 400, with no visiting fans. Down to the glamour match on tv, and the appalling weather that night. We were the first game back after the break, the next week we brought 200 to Kilkenny on another awful weather night, clashing with France-Spain. It was Kilkenny's biggest gate of the season. The hard core will go everywhere, fairweathers and barstoolers won't go, but even if there was no WC games on that night, they still wouldn't go.Originally Posted by dcfcsteve

There should be a break Euro 2008 or no Euro 2008.
If Ireland qualify yes otherwise no. The MLS played right through the World Cup last time and the US were in it. Not a like for like example but........
Last year we were in Kilkenny the same night as France v Spain. Awful stuff. As touched on already it can be done if there are no midweek fixtures.
They had a week break this year which needlessly drags the season into november.
As most games in the league are played on friday nights there are only 2 group games down for friday the 13th of June. The following friday one quarter final will be played so no need for any break.
Are you listening FAI? No need for a break any year unless Ireland qualify. And while you're at it lose the thursday night football too. It's a joke.

How could that be relveent to the Republic...still on the basis that the ROI team wore black armbands in their next game following after the death of Princess Diana in 1997 and the English team didn't (now that's a contradiction if ever there was one) nothing the FAI does will surprise me![]()

The Republicans and the GAA-heads would. But NI's fortunes are about as relevant to the rest of us, as Norway's.Originally Posted by dcfcsteve

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
