Euro 2008 - eL Summer Break

Lads, does anyone know what the story will be with the break in 2008? Will there be one? There was one for the World Cup and i think it was great. Was anything confirmed about subsequent competitions and having a break?

    Should there be a break?

Because there is a major football tournament on at the same time. For the record i voted no but i can see why they might want to have a break.

There was for the world cup and while people were saying that it was not a good idea coming up to it people agree it was a good move afterwards. If there is no break then there will be fixture changes all over the place trying to avoid clashing with games, its a nightmare.

Its the bigger football competition for Europe bar the World Cup, its madness to go up against it if we are in it or no.

ya there will be a break, sure we had a break at the start of june this year and noting was on, id say its to allow players to go on a holiday due to summer football, you cant have players taken two week holiday in the middle of the season, nor can you make them take a holiday in the middle of winter, althought that would be nice get away for the winter

Yes there should be a break - or at least not have fixtures clashing

For the World Cup there was a three week break - however it covered the first three weeks of the tournament, meaning that there were league games and perhaps league cup games at the same time as the semi finals - and maybe the quarter finals also

I seem to remember being at St Pats for a game when quite a big world cup game was on at the same time

    Am all for it.
Gives players a chance to go on hols if they wish, gives injured players a chance to recover if they're lucky (!) enough to be injured over the break, gives the other players a rest, and extends the season at either end.
The only real downside for the fan is the lack of football for the three weeks, but I'm sure UEFA would be good enough to put on some sort of tournament for us to watch on the box.

    Thumbs down

We had a stupid break this year for no reason. If the 1st division need a break so be it but not for the Premier.

Games can be moved around some of the bigger Euro 2008 games. Clubs cannot afford over 1 month without no home gates.

They stop because the PFAI insisted on 2 weeks holidays for the players and the Ref's union backed them

    No other reason

There is a reason for it, as noted by others. Only stupid thing is the lack of knowledge on your part before you posted.

UCD are in the middle of a five-week spell without a home game - watch us not go broke and realise that it's not the huge problem you make it out to be.

If it was the Pat's-UCD game, it clashed with the South Korea v Togo and France v Switzerland ties. And had a marked impact on the crowd.

If Ireland are in it then it would give clubs a chance to show all the games in their bars/clubhouses and bring in revenue that way. We should also be looking at a stage where eircom League players will actually be running out for the national side at some stage so it would need a break in that case. Obviously will never happen under Stan as you need a plane ticket to get on the side at the moment.

Just the two weeks for the group stages.
It should be easy to schedule around the final and semi.
    I didn't vote.
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

There should be a break for it. No point dragging down attendances and telly coverage.
