"Drogs" makes me puke blood through my eyes every time I read it and defecate through my ears every time I hear it. Such an ignorant Anglo nickname. "That's a fahnny name for a tahn, Paddy -- Droggidawh?"
Because if Gabriel doesn't rollerblade to the Chelsea Piers then the terrorists have truly won.

It's come up a couple of times. I got shouted down years ago as did LTID in more recent times I think. I wouldn't be overly keen on it myself anymore tbh, maybe for something unofficial...

The lazy Lims/Drogs/Mons/Shams thing bugs the hell outta me too.

I never liked names like the Supersaints or the Thoroughbreds. They are so smug and false.

Usually, the media call Galway United "the westernerers" and Cork City are "the Leesiders".

Most people refer to Bohmeians as "Bohs" (and not the Gypsies) and to Shelbourne as "Shels" (not the Reds) and St Patricks Athletic as "Pat's" (not the Supersaints)

At the risk of being tarnished as anti-Sligo, I have never heard anyone speak the words "Bit O'Red"; I have been to many games in Sligo and know a few of their fans. However, it is totally unique and unmistakeable. Can we modernise it and call them the Red Bits from here on?

Nobody knows us, we don't care

Galway is nicknamed the City of Tribes and, afaik, has been long before the advent of organised sports.

And don't forget the lady footballers, they are the Tribesmen too, and the handball team. We've no imagination down here. Still, its better than the one ye have with Bit O Red. Or is that Bitter Reds? Red Bits? Are ye all Commies, or have ye some terrible genital infections?

    Northampton : The Cobblers
    Luton : The Hatters
    Sheffield Utd : The Blades
    Walsall : The Saddlers
    Scunthorpe : The Iron
    Darlington : The Quakers

Very few towns in Ireland specialised in any particular occupation - and those that did were mostly in the industrialised north. Derry was a huge centre for shirt-making, for example - so maybe we should be called 'The Shirt Lifters......'
    Dundalk FC - The Railwaymen.

I quite like that as a nickname, comes from our club originally being the railway works team GNR Dundalk. As with those English clubs, it isn't just something made up out of nowhere. Infinitely better than 'Duns' anyway...

Are Dundalk not the Lilywhites? Is Duns not just a Sun abbreviation?

To be fair - if Sligo are looking for a new nickname they could take a leaf out of Kildare County's book.

"The Inbreds" has a ring of truth to it imo

We're also the Railwaymen - not used as much these days though. Duns is a Sun abbreviation but I've heard at least 2 Dundalk supporters use it..

How could you foretell this on post #3 of this thread? Have you got tomorrows Euromillions numbers? I'm going to leave this thread alone before it descends into an even bigger farce than it is now Bye RF

And surely they received a prompt slap across the chops?
Superfrank, you tempt me to much with your suggestion, bras and all that. No laughing matter though, they just might! Would be great fun in October, I canm picture the heading now
'Gals travel east for meeting with bras' lol

Well done noby, it was obvious from the first post that was going to happen.

    Yawn.

No slums round our place - they were all torn down in the regeneration of the City in 1959.

Only places flooded to any extent in Worcester were the Racecourse, a couple of Riverside pubs, the Cricket Ground and some new high cost appartment blocks.

I'd stick to doing what you do best RF - posting links to non-existent Wikipedia pages...
