The Bit O'Red is Rovers official nickname.

Despite it not sounding too original, I may be mistaken but I don't think any other team use it, so it is unique.

Where does "The Bit O' Red" come from? Is it because Shligo have a "bit o' red" on their shirts? Or is there another bizarre explanation?

They have a 'Lorra Red' I'd say. Especially before they switched back to the stripes....

Hate 'The Students'. 'The College' is better but it's not great either.

Maybe they should be known as "The Lorra Red" or perhaps " The Bit O' White"

He suggested we call our SC group that, and some of us did think it was funny, but most had objections because they felt it was a bit of a hooligan name, rather than a SC name. I personally disliked it because of my hatred for Sheffield United. Nempton who posts here pretty irregularly these days came up with a nickname for Limerick 37, The Limmings, which is fairly good I think, considering that club makes the lot of us want to attempt suicide at one point or another.

As for other clibs nicknames, Bit O' Red has to be the worst club nickname in the history of this sport, I don't care if you can dig up a prison team nicknamed the Child Killers because Bit O Red would still top that poll

not only can he not write a message that makes any sense(see 2nd post), once again he says ''galway took there name frm the GAA''.... your wrong AGAIN. the GAA name is ''The Tribesmen'' coming from the ''City of the Tribes'', not ''Tribal Army.

Well done Rocketfingers, ye have a cool nickname, I wish we had a cool one too because, after all, that is all that counts. I'm off to cry now at the sadness of it all

Poor RF, if it wasn't bad enough that Shligo GAA refused to attend the Showgrounds after his clubs attempts to jump on their bandwagon, they then lost to a club who really should be in the first division and hadn't won at home all season, and now the general consensus seems to be that they have a crap nickname too. No wonder he's throwing his toys out of his pram. I'd better leave this sensitive and important debate alone

Very true, very true, I look forward to the day, hopefully it is not too long in coming, then at least the pain of losing to a club without a tradition won;t be an issue.
By the way, why are we all still living in the past. Thought the Genesis report meant we should look to the future, so here's one, who will be the big club down the line? Surely Wexford, after all, as Whtiney said, 'the children are our future'

Surely Shams is the worst nickname. It sounds pathetic and it's not even their nickname.

Can't say I like "the Seagulls" but Rocky the Seagull has always been a good hate-figure in the local community.
