If its a qualifier. You don't ahve any choice. If he's pulled from the squad, and subsequently plays for the club, the club will face sanctions.

UCD have no choice but to allow these players to go, and are rightly celebrating a nice achievement. Stop beinga begrudging old so and so steve and leave it be...

No, the rule was changed a few seasons ago - one player is enough now for the team affected to get the game postponed. (At least that was the rule under the old league. It might be different this year under the FAI league.)

If a player is called up to an international squad then his team have the right to call a game off, the other team does not have a choice on the matter. with 3 players called up (fantastic achievement by the way, shows why UCD are propably the best youth set up in the country) the game will most certianly be called off.

A few Cork players for us locals to cheer but i've a feeling that the real Cork welcome will be saved for the manager.
    Welcome to Cork Don.

I don't care. He's playing week in week out for a team pushing for Europe, and playing exceptionally well.

So you don't know who's keeping him out of the squad (nor do you care) but you think Coleman is better than him?

    Typical of some around here...

Now I've got to say here, I've always been a big fan of Darren Quigley but he hasn't been playing regularly for UCD this season (afaik) and imo the best 2 goalkeepers in this country are Brian Murphy of Bohemians and Barry Murphy of Shamrock Rovers. In fact, at times it is difficult to seperate the 2. Brian Murphy is 24 (born 7 May 1983) and Barry Murphy has just turned 22 (born 8 June 1985), thus (I think) making him eligible for Under-21 football (although I do stand to be corrected on that). If, however Barry Murphy is eligible for the squad I can't understand how Quigley is in before him. For the record, Quigley was born 10 June 1986.

Quigley got his nose ahead of Barry Murphy in the first place by coming on the scene first and being the Premier last season. You'll notice that once one player gets blooded into the U-21s they tend to be stuck with. When Ireland played a meaningless game towards the end of one campaign with Switzerland Given still put Henderson in goal in spite of the fact that he was 22 and would never play again instead of giving Quigley his debut. Murphy will probably never be capped at U-21 level at this stage. Quigley is behind Randolph in the queue who just leapfrogged him after a few Conference games.

So let me get this straight - "you know well that" you're not saying we're not ambitious, while in the next clause, you say that "surrendering 3 plasyers at such a key time in the league says a lot".

    This thread is hilarious!

For the record, one player on U=21s duty is enough to get a game cancelled; we've invoked the rule before, and will certainly be invoking it for the Cork game.

Same amount of risk as him getting injured if he was playing for UCD.

We didn't have 3 players away at key times...But if it is against your club's interests - and expecially if it could mean losing up to 25% of your frist team squad - you'd have to think twice about it.
Neither do we, it's being postponed. And FFS 3 players 25%.

I love the notion that we've only got 12 players.

You know, some teams don't even travel with a reserve 'keeper!

You astound me. I thought the reason Derry lost the league last year was because of a Dublin conspiracy. Now you're telling me that if they had had a sub keeper in one game, they would be reigning league champions?
