To be fair Anthony Stokes was a huge missed opportunity, but it was an opportunity missed by Stokes, not by Ireland.
Also Sammon, Cox, Keogh, Noel Hunt and the big lad from Hull City Caleb Folan. Kevin Doyle was the aldridge of the time was class.
yeah but when he was at Celtic he should have been given more chances, he was getting good i thought. Robbie Keane was 35 in euro 2016. Walters was called up once he got transferred to Stoke and i think in 2011. I said that Trap and Martin should have tried younger players at the time. Damien Delaney, Hoolahan . Joey O´Brien, Marc Wilson and a few more guys.

He made a lot of mess ups but did he have the pace to make it at higher level ! !
We may well be asking the same questions about Parrot in the coming years ! Mind you some players use other attributes, one of the best examples was Teddy Sheringham = little or no pace but excellent positionally , very good passer and was very good in the air. He still did not play for England much but a fine player that got over a lack of pace. A dedicated trainer and dedicated to football as far as I know anyway. That makes a big difference !
I remember well a few occasions when Stokes showed talent and ability above what his career path may have reflected.
One particular Champions League game in the San Siro Against Milan he lead the line for Celtic and was superb. Showed all the qualities of a player the level of the opposition that night despite Celtic (obviously) losing.
He was often either a sub or played off Hooper however who was a more effective goalscorer. Certainly a very very talented player.
I think it was Trappatoni the one who shut down players. Once Brady left his positiion it was his fate and Marco's.
Heard a rumour yesterday that Stokes was being released from his Livingston contract already as he had been set a fitness and training program to get up to speed but hadn't been sticking to it.
The Daily Ranger in Scotland is now reporting the story, but the reason being given is that he didn't like training on the artificial pitch at Almondvale.
Either way, you would imagine that's his final chance blown as a full time professional.
He's a wrong 'un
Folding my way into the big money!!!
Would he be of any use to a League of Ireland Team ? ?
A violent thug, towards women as well as men, a open supporter of the real IRA
I don't care if he was Bergkamp, I wouldn't have wanted him in a million years
where is him at now? I always liked him as a footballer. Trapp and Tardelli were a terrible choice for Ireland specially after the Henry hand, check the stats and the players at disposal at the time.
He played players that were worse than other ones. Didnt rate Delap, Hoolahan and a few more. And what he did to Stephen Reid....mama mia, everyday an italiano charlatan.
He was finished once Liam Brady left . And for Euro 2012 he was very lucky to qualify. The game in Russia we were terrible if not for Given and Dunne. Terrible
