Looks to have a bit of form, be great if he can keep it together for the season and beyond.
Two more for Stokes tonight in a 3-1 League Cup win at Mansfield. Duffy got the other.
Looks to have a bit of form, be great if he can keep it together for the season and beyond.
Well it looks like Keane is retiring, Murphy is 33, Walters is 33 next month, Doyle is 33 next month, Hogan & Bamford are no closer to declaring and McGoldrick isn't an obviously superior option - and what's not up for debate is he's not any more likely to score goals than Stokes.
I think he's a gimme in any squad from now on if he maintains any kind of form at all.
He had that fallout with Deila at Celtic but he was shunted out wide or into midfield a lot of the time, and still looked good in the Champions League games I seen him in.
Played out wide in his last few games for Ireland too so he has that string to his bow.
So needs must is what I am saying.
Mason too has always looked capable to me but has never really got a run of games consistently at club level.
Stormed straight down the the tunnel after being replaced midway through the second half, leading to Owen Coyle giving chase.
Chaos at Blackburn. Not the best environment for Jack Byrne, having already endured a relegation battle with Cambuur.
A friend of mine is a big Bolton fan and he has nothing good to say about Coyle. He is vociferously honest about his clubs administrative shortcomings but he said that Coyle was poison from beginning to end and accelerated their downfall. Have to say I was very surprised when he got the Blackburn job and you have to question how long more it will be his.
Pity to see Stokes return to form with the insubordination though.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
Starting for Blackburn U23 tonight.
Got sent off last week for their 23s
Given 3 league starts, scoring 1 league goal with 2 more in the cup, and is pretty much discarded ever since.
I'm aware he was injured for about 3 weeks but he's been fit for well over a month.
I'd imagine he's on a hefty wage. You would think he'd be given more of a chance than he is getting with Blackburn losing every week.
Coyle is hardly still venting over Stokes's hissyfit in Cardiff three months ago, is he?
Interesting turn of phrase from Coyle re: Stokes.
I think it's pretty petty to treat him like this just because he stormed down the tunnel four months ago.Anthony Stokes missed out on the Portman Road clash and the manager confirmed he was absent through injury.
“Stokes had a little niggle,” said Coyle. “He has to be focussed and tuned in every day to show the focus that he has.”
He should be making the right decisions for the club, not his ego.
3 goals in his first 2 starts and he's probably played about 120 minutes since.
Sounds like Coyle hasn't been overly impressed with Stokes' commitment in training.
If (a big if) the issue is still the tunnel incident, then Stokes just has to apologise or hope Coyle gets booted out the door. Sometimes it's better to swallow these things. Impossible to know what's really going on there though.
Ou-est le Centre George Pompidou?
No SvD, it's clearly, 100%, "just because" Stokes stormed down the tunnel four months ago. There can't possibly be any other explanation for Coyle's recent comments so just leave it at that. Stokes has been a model pro throughout his career bar that one blemish where, if anything, he simply cared too much.
That's completely beside the point Del.
Coyle knew who he was signing.
It's hardly a coincidence that he has been marginalised since that incident, despite hitting the ground running in his first few games.
Coyle's comment (that you quoted) suggests there's more to it than that.
I think he ain't good enough . He has had a lot of managers and for the vast majority he just has not been good enough . Sometimes you just ain't good enough .
If Stokes isn't fit enough or not training hard enough, why put him on the bench and bring on a defensive midfielder or a defender, when you are entrenched in a relegation battle, losing a game by the odd goal and need to rescue a point?
Why put him on the bench to begin with?
Is he that unfit that he can't come on and make some kind of impact for five or ten minutes in a game.
It raises eyebrows on both sides.
He was getting decent game time until he stormed down the tunnel in that one game.
And now it's fallen off a cliff.
Linked with a loan to Hibernian.
