    Julie Kavner?

Me personally, no I just think she's 'alright'.

But the people who nominated her for 10 acting Emmys and 4 Golden Globes throughout the 70's 80's and 90's do. And so Does Woody Allen. He's cast her in most of his New York movies. I dont personally consider myself a fan of Allen, but it's generally accepted that he knows good actors.

I made enough drunken errors in my posts for you to gain the upper hand without having to say mad, groundless things. You should look out for those opportunities in the future. It'll save you being embarrassed when one unneccesary piece of rhetoric turns out to be shaky, as the example above proves.

Regarding Pacino, one that tends to be forgotten is "And Justice For all" , a tight little courtroom drama co-starring John Forsythe ( Blake Carrington out of "Dynasty" and the voice of the eponymous Charlie from "Charlie's angels")

Very 70's in tone (and synthy soundrack) focussing on a Lawyer (Pacino) & his personal dilemma when appointed to defend a corrupt Judge (Forsythe) in a Rape trial. The Judge may be innocent of THIS crime, but will Pacino's knowledge of the Judges previous actions affect his duty to the truth or his perception of the law?

While the movie itself is largely (sadly) neglected (it's one of Director Norman Jewison's best) , most film fans are at least aware of Pacino's performance in the key "Contempt" scene where an outraged Pacino prowls the court, having been told by the presiding judge that his comments were out of order, he rants "YOU'RE out of order! YOU'RE out of order! This whole damn TRIAL is out of order!" (They're aware of it primarily for it being a Joey Tribiani audition scene in "Friends".... Still, C'est la vie...)
On the way into the stadium, an elderly San Marino Steward waved us in and said "Tonight, may the best team win"

    And they nearly did.

I disagree with that. The guy hasn't cast a decent female lead in a couple of decades (who here rates Scarlett Johansson for her 'acting'?), and thinks Johnaton Rhys Meyer is quality.

I see your point, especially on Myers and Johannsen , but in general the "female lead" comment is a little harsh - See:

Chloe Sevigny in Melinda and Melinda
    Christina Ricci in Anything Else
Helen Hunt in The Jade Scorpion
Elaine Stritch, Tracey Ullman & Elaine May in Small time Crooks
Samantha Morton in Sweet and lowdown
    Judy Davis in Deconstructing Harry
Natasha Lyonne in Everyone says I love you
    Mira Sorvino in Mighty Aphrodite
Diane Weist in Bullets over Broadway.

All decent actresses, and for Woody, who has tended to write more detailed male characters since the Annie Hall era, the majority are fleshy female roles (in some very dodgy movies in some cases, but fleshy & female nonetheless...)

Hunt, Morton and Davis I give you, but the rest are average actresses in average roles, the three I mentioned are good actresses in average roles.

Sevigny is the most over-rated actress of this era, famous for her dress sense and giving her boyfriend a real blowjob in a film

    Different strokes I suppose.

I thought that Weist and Sorvino have never been better than in their Oscar winning roles, and having seen Elaine Strich perform in the flesh, I was left with the impression that she single handedly disproved the "women cant be funny" argument. Sevigney is , admittedly, useless to humanity, but using her as a self-obsessed porcelain waif with ideas above her station in a movie shows that Allen's casting instincts are pretty much on the money...

And Christina Ricci has capital knockers. Not a word against her will be heard.

Christina Ricci is a great actress to be fair.

If you have'nt seen 3.10 to Yuma yet then dont bother.I struggled through to the end last night.Average is being generous and some of the scenes are cringing.

I haven't seen the original 3.10 but the remake is a quality film.

As for Walk Hard, I was in stitches for large parts of it. It is a ridiculous film and don't go there looking for an intellectual feast but it is good at what it does.

If you liked Anchor man you will like it. similar type of humour. And like anchor man wont do well in the cinema but DVD sales will build a cult following.

Its a strange type of humour not main stream i had no expectations so i went in there with an open mind and loved it will watch it again a few times.

Anyone that doesnt like it will prob be the kind of person that thinks will and grace is funny.

Just to give you a feeling for the type of comedy i like Life of brian spinal tap anchor man along with shows like south park family guy mighty boosh all high on my list of favourites .

To be honest I cant stand Hanks. He was alright years ago doing the comedy movie but i dont think he is good at the serious stuff. He def isnt a De Nero, Pacino, Day Lewis kind of intense actor.

Not every character has to be intense. He plays everyman characters in a way that an actor like Pacino can't.
