    Question

This argument about Celtic is ridiculous. I have a soft spot for FC Barcelona - I'm not Spanish (sorry, Catalunyan). So what if Celtic play in Scotland? So what if Celtic have a huge following of Irish supporters! Does it really matter? What's wrong with you all!!!

Why don't we do the club or country argument next - just to change the tune a bit!

Love it if was Shels.....have no time for them, but even the bitter muppets on here would be speechless..... have time to reacquaint themselves, with the Struggles of the Diaspora!
Bit tired to be honest of your patronising attitude. When I mentioned our teams playing in the SPL obviously I didnt mean playing on the same level as the Old Firm. The fact that this has to be pointed out to you sums you up. Also you and docboy love calling us, the real fans, bitter.

If you want to call us "bitter muppets" for supporting real Irish teams instead of english ones so be it. You claim we are ignorant and need to learn our own history. I am fully aware of Irish culture outside Ireland and I dont need to read any book to clarify this. I'm well travelled and have lived abroad. Lost count of the Irish abroad who did nothing but slag off anything and everything Irish. Sound familiar?

Let me make it real clear what a real fan is. For somebody in THIS country it is supporting your local team FIRST. IF somebody wants to follow the fortunes of manure, celtic or whatever AFTER that fine.

But I cant understand how "fans" here, and these are the real muppets, who refuse to support an Irish team and yet spend a lot of sterling "supporting" an english team. Witness an english team coming over playing an Irish one and the Irish team getting booed onto the field by these wannabee english ****s. Witness these same MUPPETS foaming at the mouth when the english national team are playing. Best of the lot is when you point out the hypocrisy

Might I suggest you take your head out of the clouds or your arse, come home and take a game in without the chip on your shoulder.

hahahah the old 'Real fan' argument. Once again an EL fan enlightens me as to what a REAL fan is, oh what would we do without you.

Every club sells a product and it's up to the public to buy it. What about the merchandising machine that is Manchester United?
Cork City sell a product whether you accept it or not. The "Rebel Army" is rolling so to speak, encouraging fans to come along and City's fanbase has increased considerably in the last few years due to the marketing push.

The funny thing is, if a fella for instance from London is over in Cork some weekend, takes in a City game and gets hooked, what you do say to him then if he keeps coming over to support City thereafter? Tell him to get to f**k?, support your own local team? Methinks not, he would be made more than welcome which is exactly the case for Celtic supporters.

The vast majority of Celtics fanbase are Scottish but if you're not then you're welcome to support the team anyway.

    What's the problem???

You're quite right, the commitment shown by people going to the pub to watch English teams never fails to inspire me and I only wish I could manage the same level fandom as them.

The difference being is that the London guy wont have started supporting City because of their 'Catholic Roots'.

Another difference being that this guy wont be supporting City because its a socially accepted norm to do so.

Most Irish Celtic 'Supporters' have never been to Parkhead once, let alobe regular visitors.

As explained earlier, I started supporting Celtic because the fact that I saw loads of Irish flags at Parkhead impressed me which will be the case for a lot of Irish fans, not because it's the socially accepted norm. The supporting them because they're a Catholic club theory is misplaced and dated considering a number of the team are Protestant. In days gone by that might've been relevant and even then only in Glasgow.

Most foreign fans of any club have never been to a game involving their side, in most cases it probably boils down to financial reasons which is fair enough.
I'm not going to call him any less of a fan just because he can't go to a game than say the fella who lives next door to the stadium and is a company director somewhere.

What you are basically suggesting is that Irish Celtic fans support them for the sole reason of it being "cool" to do so or because of religion.
A very uneducated generalisation IMO. Just because you're not a Celtic supporter yourself and can't understand it doesn't mean you should pidgeonhole people who are.

I don't understand how you support Cork City but I don't question it or have a problem with it

As for the EL,am more than happy to go to see games,as have done in the past with LOI;seen Shams.@ diverse venues as RDS ,Dalyer & Tolka......would concentrate yer energies on getting the new ground.....ready c.2010?!
Think you need to re read my last post. Maybe I do need to check out my local library to see who these shams are

You've been to a few games at home. Did you feel the need to spread your knowledge of the "diaspora" when you were at the games cos after all EL fans are ignorant?!!

It's up to the directors of the club to concentrate their energies on getting Tallaght up and running. You think arsenal fans are building emirates stadium?!
