Taken off today with a suspected broken leg.

This lad has absolutely no luck.

Terrible injury for him today during a collision with Saloman Rondon sounds like it might have been a badly broken leg. Apparently Rondon looked shocked when he saw McCarthy's leg.

Won't post the picture here...but if anyone dares to look, here's a link.

That's got 6 or 8 months on him at least.

    <MOD EDIT>
Just changing this to text, instead of a link
    It's seriously graphic

With his history of injuries then this is highly likely to be the end of his career at the top level unfortunately

Shocking misfortune. That must be utterly devastating for him. Hopefully he can make a full and speedy recovery.

Was listening to the radio, heard about the injury, which was described as "horrific", which to me means a broken leg, of
the type where you do not need an x-ray machine to diagnose, and that means a double break, just had a look
at the image to confirm and "horrific" is not an understatement.
I guess Coleman and Alan judge can supply a pair of crutches etc if required.

What is wrong with the bones of these Irish lads?

Are they not drinking enough milk?

OR more likely are they drinking too much?

    https://nutritionfacts.org/2017/01/3...one-fractures/

Milk consumption during teenage years was not associated with a lower risk of hip fracture, and if anything, milk consumption was associated with a borderline increase in fracture risk in men. It appears that the extra boost in total body bone mineral density from getting extra calcium is lost within a few years, even if you keep the calcium supplementation up. This suggests a partial explanation for the long-standing enigma that hip fracture rates are highest in populations with the greatest milk consumption. This may be an explanation for why they’re not lower, but why would they be higher?
My theory is milk, being slightly acidic actually dissolves your bones, indeed the reason why milk is full of calcium is because it
    dissolves calcium.

They should stick to a strictly alcohol olny diet like Paul McGrath, George Best or Paul Gascoigne, don't think any of them ever had a bad break?

So disappointed for James. One thing that gives a bit of solace is the example and presence of Coleman, who it appears as though he has a decent bond with. You can imagine Coleman will be willing to lend advice and assistance to James, as well as plenty hope.

Awful injury. No one deserves to suffer an injury like that but it is particularly cruel that it should happen to McCarthy after spending so long fighting his way back from the previous injury.

Sam Allardyce said it is a compound fracture (i.e. the broken bone has been forced through the skin). The doctors will do everything they can but i wonder if we will see him on a football pitch again. Recovering from an injury like this is hard work, and having spent the last 18 months in recovery I just wonder if the appetite will be there to go through it all over again.

He will go through the rehab because he will be motivated, getting back to full fitness will be the goal. Whether he will be the same player is another question.
Since his return he had been throwing himself into tackles with abandon as if reborn as an enforcer, but this injury came from an ordinary challenge.

27 already I'm afraid, 28 by the time he hopefully returns.

It'd be encouraging for him to see Coleman come back without showing too many ill-effects. It would also be ideal if Allardyce is still in charge by the time he returns, although you'd have to rate that as 'highly unlikely'. Big Sam seems to have a lot of time for him.

McCarthy's contract at Everton doesn't expire until 2020, so he's pretty lucky in that sense at least.

Could make a return in the summer according to Allardyce today: http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2018/0...turn-says-boss
While Allardyce emphasised that the Club’s medical staff will have the final say on when McCarthy returns to training from a broken leg, the boss said that “with a bit of luck” the combative midfielder will be able to take part in Everton’s preparations for the new campaign.

Is there any chance / hope that his other injury concerns could be sorted during this time . He has had some problems injury wise , unfortunately .

I was thinking the same, wishful thinking maybe but that hamstring, groin, etc. should have plenty time to strengthen now.
