Some journalist on BBC Radio Scotland tonight said he 'certainly believes' that McCarthy is 'seriously considering' playing for Scotland 'despite what his advisors are saying'. When asked whether he'd spoken to the player he 'takes the fifth amendment'. The discussion is here. 17 minutes in.
I've seen interviews with Mccarthy in the past.this thing about letting his agent do his talking sounds a bit meek
Interesting stuff. The journo concerned did state that he would not be putting the story in his newspaper tomorrow which leads me to believe he might be a W. Mitty type or his info is second/third hand stuff. If he has spoken directly with McCarthy (as he seemed to indicate) then why let a scoop like that go.
There are so many different voices coming from all over and none from the actual player. A bit silly in an annoying way, like reality TV.
No Somos muchos pero estamos locos.
Do we know for a fact his father even said that stuff? That's what is bothering me about all this, no matter how it turns out there are going to have been people lying or being lied to, obfuscating and talking out of turn, and making **** up for the papers. I too am apt to belive direct quotes as I realize it is liable to just make them up but i don't know. I would have to hear the guys voice myself i think in this case.
I was thinking this was all Bull**** until his manager spoke. I just can't figure out for the life of me what is going on. I mean he can't keep the boy from playing Internationally if the lad wants to, so why even get involved at all? I just want someone to tell me, is he going to be available for Macedonia or not? And if he was to be, wouldn't that mean he will have a rift with his manager? And if he isn't won't he have a rift with us? So whatever happens he is going to have issues somewhere next month I guess. It's never ending.

The whole thing is becoming ridiculous.
Why do these things happen to Ireland, it's like Saipan all over again.
He seems to be swopping allegiance every 4 hours.
All seems a bit fishy.
This could go on for months, years...
Can't say Trap helps much, if he was some little known League 1 player of limited ability he would have been capped years ago.
Seems as if the rule is "If the fans are keen on this player then don't pick him'.
Another things is, I wonder if Trap is 'in on it'?

yeah, its all a bit ridiculous. I almost feel as if it isnt worth it. Us Irish fans should have more respect for our country and team than is being shown by Trap and McCarthy and Martinez in this whole sorry episode. Really, what is stopping McCarthy from coming out and stating his choice? And if he really has to choose after already representing us then id prefer if he just picked Scotland and got it over with. And if he is getting his agent to do all his speaking for him then his agent is doing a terrible job of communicating clearly. What a sh!t-show.
nice summary there.Seems as if the rule is "If the fans are keen on this player then don't pick him'.![]()
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
There is a brilliant Lucas Leiva fake twitter account that regularily gets an airing on boards.ie
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!
Would all the links to other famous footballers and personalities not indicate that the twitter account is genuine? I don't know a whole lot about twitter so i'm just guessing. Looks pretty genuine. YBIG had his Facebook account link up at weekend. Doesn't give away much.
Also, listened to that Scottish radio piece and the journo with the 'sources' sounds full of sh!t IMO. Not one sliver of info that contradicts what George Gray, McCarthy's father and, if one poster on YBIG is to be believed, his cousins' version - which is that he is committed to Ireland. Not to mention the litany of other assertions by the player himself in the past that he is committed. Saying that, it would be great if he himself could come out once more and make a statement.
In this case I think its a mixture of confusion and maybe pig-headedness on Trap's part, Martinez being a smarmy, self-important pr!ck, Scottish clutching at straws and Irish paranoia.

Read the comments, it's obviously a 12 year old.
''@jackwilshere hi Jack, can you help me get some more followers please, your a great player.''
Keeps trying to initiate contact with footballers, just reeks of some 12 year old tbh.
I also doubt he'd call himself an ''u-21 international'' considering he's played senior.
There's the right way, the wrong way.... and the Max Power way!! :-D
Yeah that feed is not real lol. I need to try to sell some of you a bridge in Brooklyn! Michael Jackson and Tupac have twitter feeds. Do you think they use that as a medium to speak from beyond?!!

http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...289738693.htmlFormer Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr, also speaking to Today FM, was critical of Giovanni Trapattoni for failing to contact the player directly to clarify the issue. “It’s a strange situation that the manager hasn’t got a player’s phone number in the first case and it also appeared that Trapattoni was blaming an agent’s involvement in maybe trying to persuade the player, but then again it’s hard to understand what he is actually saying at the press conferences.
“It would be nice if the speculation was ended by Trapattoni going to a match and making an appointment to see the player after the game and clear the issue up. James McCarthy looks like he could be top notch and we need to do whatever it takes to get him and that’s the manager’s biggest responsibility.”
I think this matter should be left to lie now. Call him up for the Macedonia game, if he answers the call which I very much expect him to then there ya go, worries over. If he pulls out then it is serious. One way or another you cant make the lad play for us, but by all accounts there is little reason to think that he doesnt want to.
From 'The Tartan Army' messageboard
The rumour I heard is that he doesn't want to be involved in the Rep of Ireland v Scotland game and that is why the "thinking of club football until the summer" line has come out.
The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist thinks it will change; the realist adjusts the sails.
