if mccarthy switches alleigence trapattoni's spell in charge will go down with staunton as being an absolutely useless incompetant ****
Does anyone know what the Scottish version of foot.ie / ybig is? and if that is alive with rumour of him defecting to play for them?
I have had a quick google but nothing really current on the top searches strangely.

Trap will be told to clean out his office, as he fills up his box with mementoes and stuff,
a piece of paper falls to the floor.
"Hey! there's James' missing phone number and a message! My God, he really wanted to play for us!"

Nothing on there about it really, a passing mention at best, amongst a fair bit of bitterness and a strong impression that there wouldnt be much of a welcome for him in any event, but surely if it were about to happen, that board would be full of discussion about it.
That and a huge sense of loss from the more knowledgeable among them.
I think its a non runner. I hope it is. Surely the one so called, world renowned manager we have had isnt about to drop a bollock on this scale.
the TA board is an incredibly negative and bitter place.
Dunphy is having a field day with it. He's using the Indo media line - "he's going to play for Scotland now because Trap is useless" line.
Spot on above, re-Given being influenced by a leading question. He probably knows little and was asked what he thought of McCarthy pulling out due to tiredness.

No direct quotes from McCarthy in the piece.
My own personal view on it is that he did come off with an injury towards the end of the game so if Wigan has said that was the reason there would have been no issue. But using the line that he was tired for a 2nd time was amatuerish and disrepectful. I would have liked to see the FAI stand firm and insist that he travelled over to be assessed by the FAI physios as they were well within their rights to do. That way it would have set a marker down to stop clubs messing us around in future
Its really not that complicated!!!
James McCarthy is one of the Premier League’s hottest properties, he wants to play for Ireland, so why doesn’t Giovanni Trapattoni have his number?

A lot of knickers in a twist on this one - A nothing story again, thankfully some of the more level headed sane posters keeping this in check.
Perhaps, as has been mentioned earlier, a simple meet up with the squad to watch the match from the stands (no inspectiond from the FAI physios necessary) would have been the only gesture required to appease those more 'worried' fans.
McCarthy is going nowhere.......
I thought you were off the drink Ronnie?
"No, I drink to help me mind my own business....can I get you one? (c) Ronnie Drew
I can completely understand why Wigan would want to protect their best player from playing in a relatively meaningless tournament after he has been out for 3 months with an injury. I am also reasonably confident that James McCarthy really wants to play for Ireland. Nobody would put themselves through the abuse that he (and Aiden McGeady) had to endure at every Scottish away ground when playing for Hamilton after he chose Ireland over Scotland. Would you want to suddenly turn round and start playing for a country like Scotland after receiving such abuse as a 18 year old boy? I wouldn't. I also wouldn't like to hear the regular anti-Irish abuse that is found on the Tartan Army messageboard, and is commonplace throughout large parts of Scotland. Many Scottish fans are fond of telling people of Irish descent that the famine's over, why don't you go home, but they don't like it when McGeady and McCarthy followed their advice.
Regardless of this, Trap should have capped McCarthy in either the Montenegro or Andorra home games to tie him to us for forever, and put an end to this debate. Playing the likes of Martin Rowlands or Paul Green in front of the best Irish midfielder since Roy Keane is a disgraceful decision
“I’d always play Pirlo but Trapatoni says his first concern is to avoid losing goals. The truth is that we didn’t know what we were doing out there" Gennaro Gattuso, June 2004.
When Robbie pulled out, I wondered where the story would be.
Once the papers came out with this whopper of a wild story about 2 of our players roaring drunk in Leeson st, dancing on top of a ban garda's car.
