a bit of fairness please. mccarthy has many times been unavailable for differant reasons. on top of this wigan said he wasnt properly match fit by any stretch when they bought him and had to work on him a lot. he's only back from an injury and admitedly is playing very well over the last 3 wigan matches. its up to the manager who plays and any game we have had under trap that would "tie him down" has been a must win for us where risking an unproven inexperienced player would be a massive risk

thats the frustrating thing for us, if he had been available for these friendlies he could be bedded into the team almost. he will get there.

One of Traps priorities should have been to cap McCarthy as soon as possible. I mean, it wasnt that long ago that clearly talented younger players were fast-tracked to the senior squad. What has changed that this priority should have changed?

That's correct.

But he would have been a step closer to the first team. Once this guy makes the breakthrough, he'll be a permanent fixture. I think the frustrating thing for those who believe he is fully committed to us is a sense of time being lost. He's more than good enough to be in the team already.

Ive agreed with ye on most Skstu, but I don't necessarily agree with this statement. I wanted him in there, and thought he should have been, but not for this reason. Thats going on a whole different road. Our relationship(you may call it an understanding) cant go any further

He was right to refuse it
If he had agreed to it then every other player we approached could make the same demand, point to Noble and say "well, you gave him those terms"

tets, do you think no other player we have "convinced" down the years has asked the same question ...........and been given the green light! I'd say a few Irish heros asked the exact same question! Incl one of our all time favourite captains!
All trap had to do was say ok and keep shtump about it! Play Noble, dont let on about your agreement....and if it doesnt work drop him like anyone else!
If trap hadnt opened his big mouth no one would have known!

thats okay Paul. You werent doing it for me for a long time anyway - i just hadnt the heart to break it to you...

The merit argument (if that is what you are referring to) is valid, in fact it is the number one argument in relation to McCarthy in my opinion. On ability he deserves to be there ahead of any other centre mid in the squad.

In the bigger picture however it seems that what used to be the Irish way of fast-tracking (like MickMac did, not Stan) the major Irish talents (Duff, Keane etc etc) seems to have been forgotten or left behind by this management team. The conservatism and delay in getting new talent into the squad is just tiring and disappointing to me.
