Could he be the answer to our prayers in central midfield? I just hope he makes the two games in May and attends all our training camps.

Just watch the highlights of last game there, In my opinion his performance for a man meerly 19 is imense. Did you see the way he kept telling N'zogbia what to do. Hopefully he stays with the lactics for a few years because it is easy Martinez has got great belief in his abilty, but will ensure he is also protected for the media spotlight.
It least we now have a potential world class player who wants to play for us rather then a fella whod ratther represent the manks.Last night was my first time see him play a central role for wigan , from what i seen before he was on the left week. hopefull martinez has the nerve to keep him in the middle to let him grow.
This really is very positive stuff. Every report I have read has given him a great write up. I saw the first 20mins or so myself and he looked involved at least. He was giving N'Zogbia dogs abuse out by the sideline at one stage as well for not making a better angle for him to pass the ball, good sign I thought. When I heard how well he played I set the Sky+ to record the repeat of the match on ESPN this morning, I'll take a look later. He seems to get lots of blocks and tackles in as well as his passing ability. This could be vital if he's to be a Trap favourite.
Edit- just seen your point about N'Zogbia after posting Desmond, it has to be a good sign when he's almost bossing a more established player around. N'Zogbia got a great write up too to be fair.

This makes me really not understand those who were saying he should not have been capped in the Brazil game. He was outstanding, frustrated Gerrard on many occasions and looked the best midfield player on the pitch last night, bar Mascherano perhaps.

From the above link:
-Diamé and McCarthy took control of their battles, the latter revelling in a contest against his boyhood hero, Gerrard, and receiving a nasty foul from behind from the England vice-captain. "The biggest compliment I can pay him is that his performance didn't surprise me," said Martínez. "He played 20 minutes against Brazil [for Ireland] and tonight against his hero, but nothing fazes him."

Saw the highlights there today and can only say the boy was fantastic looks like we might have a real gem on our hands here.
I was always of the support that he was right to stay in Scotland last season to gain more first team football and looks to be proven correct. He now getting his chance at Wigan and seems to be taking a big step towards gaining more regular first team football for rest season. He put Gerrard in his pocket last night thats for sure.

Some frustration began to seep into Liverpool hearts, Torres earning a caution for catching Diame. Gerrard followed him into the book, taking man and ball with a challenge on McCarthy. It reflected McCarthy’s – and Wigan’s – superiority on the night.
Looks like he completly outplayed Gerrard. Not bad for a 19 year old
Yes i think you could see that McCarthy has a lot of respect the way he dealt with Stevie G's tackle, imagine if that was young James who put in the Tackle on stevie G what the English press would be saying if Mr.G missed the world cup over a crazy lunge like that.I think the tackle was horrible and no matter how frustrated he was a lunge like that from an expierenced premier leauge player should not be condoned.
Also on a different topic, can we call him the young Irish man or will he aways be the young Scott.
I take back everything I said earlier in this thread about this lad. He looks like the real deal.
Can only back up with what's being said the fella had a cracking game last night. Bags of energy and bursts into the box. If he continues at this rate it won't be long before Stephen Ireland is all but forgotten.
