Would've hoped for a start at this stage, especially against this calibre of opposition.
On the bench tonight.
Unused sub. Looks like he needs a loan move (at the very least).
I work with a couple of Everton fans and they are crying out for McCarthy to return. Think Silva has lost the plot. Stubbornly persisting with same formula and personnel and expecting a different outcome. I suspect McCarthy may actually last longer at Everton than Silva.

BREAKING NEWS
Sky sources: Idrissa Gueye definitely won’t be moving to Everton in this window, and James McCarthy will also be staying.
I forget what his problem was this time, has he healed 100% and is he just short of match fitness?
Yeah that seems to be the situation. Some comments from Silva here. Basically, we don't want him to leave in case we have an injury crisis.
This lad hasn't had a decent outing in an Irish shirt since I last logged in. And that was about six years ago.
McCarthy was key to getting us to Euro 2016 and although he played poorly in the opening two games, he was important against Italy to get us into the knockouts. He is vital for us in the next campaign, especially if Rice isn’t involved. Really hope he can get back into a team full time. He’s quality.

Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
