I have read a few like that, but while not doubting their authenticity, I'm taking them with a pinch of salt. I think people are more likely to post negative comments if they have had a bad experience than if they have had a good one...its just human nature.

I have been to plenty European cities where the atmosphere wasn't great in certain areas (generally dodgy clubs and side streets), that even happens in small Irish towns such as ________* where people are just edging for a bust up.

Anyway I won't be traveling alone, I'll be traveling with 5 mates and another 5995 colleagues....

    * name of town not entered for fear of reprisals....

We had a great time in Bratislava mate. No problems at all. Stick to the city centre and use taxis and you'll be sound.

PS Avoid the Dubliner pub. Its a total rip off and they closed early when Celtic were there as they didn't like football fans

Bratislava should be OK, fairly civilised for Eastern Europe.

Me and a mate stayed for 4 nights for the bratislava game.

Absolutely fine - its little old town is absolutely lovely and packed full of pubs/restraunts etc. Impossible not to enjoy - always something to do and somewhere to go - head for a nightclub on a boat on the river its open to all hours and full of lovely young slovak girls

What I would say however is be warry when you venture outside the old town - the outskirts are bleak and I can quite believe people having a hard time in some areas.

To me Bratislava is an absolute gem of an old town, surrounded by an absolute time warp in the surrounding suburbs.

Keep your wits and youll have no trouble

Nice one, one common thing I've seen on all sites/forums is regarding the Dubliner pub...not friendly, over priced, over zealous doormen...I'll be heading to the Hviezdoslavovo square (foot.ie meet up point too), the Dubliner is on the other larger square.

You did say on another thread that you were heading to Budapest on the Thursday with a few other Mayo lads?

Ya, 15 of us getting in around 6pm. A swift half and tucked up for an early night methinks.

Just 5 of ye?? Well if we bump into each other there will be no dnager of pushing us around like ye did in Pearse Stadium.

All true on that Celtic forum from my experience.
Hviezdoslavovo square the place to be and stay away from Dubliner.

Hviezdoslavovo square is bigger than the other square where Dubliner is. Much longer

We're just sorting the train on the Friday morning too, haven't heard many that are taking our route so there will be no hassle. Seeing as the mayo boys are warming up the place before we arrive you'll have to point us in the right direction when we get there....

I've been to Pearse Stadium once in the last 15 years and I used to live within a 10 minute walk of the place and that was to a Brian Adams concert

    I'LL GET MY COAT....

I've been to Bratislava on a few occasions although there was never football on when I was there. It's a lovely city a bit of a mini Vienna.
