Just to spice this up again, are there any players that you try and buy a lot when you're playing? When I do League of Ireland I basically take what I can get but after getting Limerick promoted one year in CM 2000/01 I strengthed the squad with Alan Kernaghan (a rock), John Sheridan and Tommy Coyne (couldn't even hold a place on the bench!). I remember signing a young lad called Robbie Daly in the same game but I think he was randomly generated.

With bigger teams I'd recommend Aimo Diana, Dmitrios Gramosis (spelling is off, he's a Greek/German with Hamburg I think), the usual Backircioglu and Kallstrom tandem, a verstaile defender called Suleyman Sleyman (again, spelling isn't great there but he's a Syrian/Swede), Greek international keeper with a long name that starts with 'E', Nigmatulin is a good cheapish keeper, Ajax have some players who develop well (Yakubu, Cruz, Trabelsi, Hersi), John Buikelma becomes a decent player as well. I've never really bothered with huge clubs, Villa, Celtic and Ajax are about my biggest so take that as a gauge. Oh and Taribo West on a free in a lot of editions is a good buy as well.

It disappeared when I downloaded the second patch. I couldn't find the magazine in Cork, does anyone have any suggestions? I think the keeper's Eleftheropolous.

Hitman, I'm in Cork for the weekend. If you want a copy I'll check in Limerick today and see if there's any left. The I can arrange to meet you in Cork on Saturday maybe and hand over the Magazine/CD in return for the cost price. It's a bit pricey at just under a tenner but if you want to do that either PM me here or else e-mail me as soon as you get a chance.

    I take lunch at 12.45

And you got the Greek keeper right too!

If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

EP 4 is out now, with EP 5 on the way.

Which would lead to the question... why release the thing when it takes 5 mods to fix it?

And my money is on a sixth mod being released.

You never know, all the bugs might be fixed by the time CM 5 is out
Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?

Yeah, it should never have been released in the state it was in... smelled of money to be honest. I'll be much warier of buying straigh-off next time out.

Yes but at that stage they will have created a whole load of new ones!!!

I don't think spending €50+ on the next full version is justified. You should be able to get a data update ( including patches ) for €10-15. That would be fair.

If they introduced a 3D Match Engine in the next version, then it would be worth paying for.

Rumour has it that they abandoned a 3d match engine for Cm4. In the CM4 magazine one of the development tema said that they'd need proper visualisation for over 200,000 players, and that it'd be like writing another game entirely.

It's slow enough anyway, imagine CM with a 3D engine?? Imagine the loading times!!! It'd be like being back in the commodore 64 days!

A 3D match engine won't be introduced for at least five years and even then, unless it's perfect, it'd be commercial suicide for SI Games. Most of the fanbase just wouldn't accept it.

To answer Hitman's question, yes it does fix A LOT of bugs. It also causes a dozen new ones though and the fix list for EP5 is also quite large. It's been three months since I've bought the bloody thing and I've only gotten about two weeks of enjoyment out of it. SI have handled the situation terribly and won't be getting anymore of my money again.
And stay out of Bumtown, ya no talent bum.

    Anyone got any Player Tips?

As Manager of Derry I could sign:

Stephen Hughes (Injured for 5 Months) Sold for £250,000 to Rangers
    Kanchelskis
    Les Ferdinand
    Per Frandsen

Also look out for a young Bulgarian called Torpindov (16yo) Valencia, Real, Feyenoord all calling for him....

I signed David Welch for Drogheda from Cork City on loan for the season and he and Andy Myler scored nigh on 60 goals on the way to winning the first division (Myler ended up with about 35 I think).

When I was playing with Cork City I signed Ray Carolan from Kilkenny (I think) on a free transfer, and he was excellent in the holding role in midfield.

Ken Oman (Bohs) is handy, got him on loan for two seasons, but the bugger wouldn't sign a permanent deal, despite a fee being agreed.

And, obviously enough, John O'Flynn is magic.
