    Controlled Flares

Noel mooney mentioned to us about getting controlled flares for games which are not banned by the FAI, any idea where to get these??

i presume its the same situation as with smoke canisters, you look for permission from fai/club boards

According to the ground rules there is no such thing as "controlled flares" or any other type of flares allowed in the Showgies.

I'd imagine he meant regular flares that would be ignited in controlled conditions. i.e let off on the pitch by "trained professionals" pre game or at half time. Macnas did it before our friendly with Sunderland. Load of crap, looks ridiculous.

Never heard of them, and oddly, most google search results disappear when you add -viagra to the search.

Funny thing happened when we set one off after scoring a last minute winner against Shelbourne a few weeks back. The Limerick steward came over to put it out but hadn't a clue how to. So after stamping on it a few times (and nearly having his jeans go up in flames) he kicked it in frustration and it landed on to a pile of our backpacks and nearly set them on fire too. Since there was no damage done it was funny

Controlled flares eh, it's obvious that bicycle clips are the answer
False hope is worse than no hope. Ask Sligo.

    Hmmm... indeed... lovely...

    Controlled flares...

Let's have controlled singing, chanting, flag-waving and clapping too. We wouldn't want things to get out of hand now, would we?

    "Controlled flares"

I despair at some LOI fans. Either do themand risk the fine (and pay it....) or don't do them

Lads, flares are covered under the same laws as fireworks. If you want to have a "controlled display" you have to apply to your local Garda station for a permit and take out public liability insurance.

A couple of years ago Waterford fans had a "controlled display" where they lit the flares on the running track as the teams came out. Looked great but they still got fined by the FAI because they hadn't applied for the necessary permit.

Have to say this made me laugh. Hi, I'm an ultra, and I'm also a trained flare professinal. I'd like to buy two flares please. Here's my Ultra qualifications and my Ultra insurance policy number. Can you wrap those for me too. thanks
