SCOTLAND'S Under-19 kids were taught a lesson on Wednesday night by a Dutch kid called Barry Maguire.

Holland ran out 2-1 winners in a friendly win at Broadwood and the FC Den Bosch midfielder's name shouldn't lead to confusion over his nationality. The playmaker, born in Holland to a Dutch mother and Irish father, warned that unless Scottish clubs start blooding players at a younger age we'll always come up short when matched against Europe's elite.

Maguire said: "I think we're stronger and more physical than the Scots. That comes from playing a lot of first-team football. I'm 18 but I've been playing first-team football for two years

"Most of the guys in the Holland side are playing first-team football and that was definitely the difference. If the Scottish guys can get more experience then I'm sure all that will come."
I'm just waiting for the Eve of Destruction puns in the future with Maguire(if he pans out for the Dutch)

Just reading an Ipswich forum and they think Garvan will flourish with the knew signings. They don't rate Miller at all and playmakers are only as good as their teammates.

30 seconds into Reid's Sunderland debut and he passed for Murphy's goal.

Thought he was still injured so didn't put him into my fantasy football team.

    From the Sunday Telegraph online:

Andy Reid becomes instant Sunderland hero
By James Mossopp at The Stadium of Light

    Sunderland (1) 2 Wigan (0) 0

They applauded when he warmed up, they cheered when he came on and they roared him to the echo when he created the goal that killed off Wigan. Andy Reid is the new star who dazzled at the Stadium of Light.

It was his debut, a £4 million signing from Charlton Athletic as the January transfer window was closing. He looked a shade tubby in his No 20 shirt but within seconds of being sent on by manager Roy Keane he brought the touch of class that had been missing.

Bundling his way past three challengers wide on the half-way line, he set off on a run and pinged the ball with perfect accuracy to the feet of Daryl Murphy who cut in and struck a 20-yarder no goalkeeper would have saved.

Robert Eliot made his first appearance in the matchday XI this season for Charlton as an unused substitute

Irish Abroad for Saturday, 9th February 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroa...ate=2008-02-09
There were more Irish goalscorers today than any other day this season, with no less than 17 Irish players finding the back of the net!
Roy O'Donovan made his first start in the League since 21st October 2007, and unfortunately had to go off early in the first half with an injury
Robbie Keane has now scored three goals in his last four away games
Despite Jonathan Walters scoring his ninth goal at home, Ipswich lost their first home game of the season
Sean St Ledger scored his first goal of the season
Andy Keogh has scored four goals in his last four games, before that he only had three goals all season
Glenn Whelan marked his first start for Stoke by picking up his ninth booking of the season
Lewis Emanuel also opened his account for the first time this season
Alan Sheehan completed 90 minutes for Leeds for the first time since his loan move
Darren Randolph and Adam Rooney both played their first games on loan at Bury
Noel Hunt scored his first goal in four games. The longest he had gone without scoring since October
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

Half an hour gone in the Celtic match. McGeady set up first with a low cross for Naka. And just scored there with typical McGeady goal from outside the box. His 8th goal and 10th assist of the season. He also laid on 2 fabulous crosses for Brown and Vennegoor. Free headers but both missed. I actually think he must put a lot of spin on his crosses because plenty of his crosses have led to free headers this season that failed to hit the target.

He's just done it again. Another cross for a goal. You have to see this one though. Effective showboating to get away from a player.
