lads do you not think that a lot of these players will be pulled out of this friendly by their clubs ?as has been the case before when it comes to games like this .
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.
In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.
We actually need to win at least one of these games. It'd kind of help to have our top scorer in the team I think. Robbie can be infuriating but he's the kind of player we need for the run in.
What would 4-5-1 achieve, especially without Duff?
i just think we look more stable with 4-5-1 , as u say stuttgart88 , keane can be infuriating - with 5 in the mid i think we would cause the czechs and slovaks more trouble - doyle is a livewire - he wont drift backlike keane does all the time - keane is on fire with spurs pre season - scored again today - i just wish he would take the form to the green jersey
----------------Given----------------
O'Shea----McShane--Dunne----Finnan
---------Carsley-----Potter-----------
---McGeady---Ireland---Keane--------
---------------Doyle-----------------
Not a big fan of venturing too far from 4 4 2 for international matches but we have to accomodate our best footballers as well as looking for alternatives to Kilbane.
I'd start with this team with O'Halloran coming on for the last 20 minutes regardless.
After that I'd like to see Gibson in the middle and anyone from Murphy, Keogh, Stokes, Folan, loong up front.
Anyone know on what date the squad is being named?
'And Crouch must score'
I like the look of that team doctor but lets face it, Kilbane will definitely be shoe-horned in there somewhere (probably at the expense of Potter)...Apart from that I hope he sticks with the "attacking" 4-5-1 as it allows guys like Ireland and McGeady/A. Reid a bit more freedom to play....
"Well I think they'll be a little disappointed with that" - Matt Holland on TV3 after 5-2 drubbing by Cyprus
I expect that too... I just hope that, given it's a friendly, stan tries something different regarding problem areas (or players) whilst trying to build on the positives of the last couple of games if you know what I mean.

What team doctor?![]()

a good old fashioned "players should be playing regulary" rule would be great, I think D Gibson will be in the squad, but with the midfield options bought in manu, he'll prob need to go,or on loan... does harte have a club at the minute,or he still with levante in liga 2?? finnan, dunne, mcshane should all be first teamers this season, not o shea.in midfield, will sven start ireland? he has signed a lot of costly players,so will prob go with them? S Reid will prob not be properly in action for international standard til after double away trip, carsley and k doyle, prob hunt will all be starters. is duff out still, i think he is.
Stan might be at Athlone this week to check out U19 players vs Chile, small chance one might become a squaddie!!
Alan Lee/O'Brien with good starts to season could be included.
Not sure about O'Donovan, prob not as he wouldnt be in the plans for double aways.
any chance for bennett if he gets regular chances to start at Southampton on loan??
not sure if c doyle or randolph are starters this season either, but murphy at scunthorpe will be, same level as charlton ath....

Me neither, with the exception that left back and central mid are problem areas even with everyone fit. We should look at emerging players in these positions sooner rather than later.
I also think Doyle or Henderson should play at least half a game in Denmark as Given's repeated injuries are getting worrying.
What's the story with Given, any news on scan results?
Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has suffered another injury blow ahead of the new season after goalkeeper Shay Given was ruled out with a groin problem.
The 31-year-old limped out of the weekend's friendly clash with Sampdoria and has been sent for further assessment after being dogged by similar problems for much of last term.
``He has gone to see a specialist in London because we want to make sure just how much damage has been done,'' Allardyce said.
``He has been for a scan and it doesn't look serious, it's just a slight
strain. At the moment we only expect him to be out for a couple of weeks, but we won't take any risks.''
bloody Marlon Harewood...... I loved how that incident got smoothed over in the press last season yet the Hunt/Cech incident was front page news with Hunt (very nearly) accused of attempted manslaughter by Jose and Chelski. I remember the surgeon who operated on Given saying that he had only seen that type of injury in serious car accidents.
