Man Utd Sign 9 year Old

    Rhain Davis:

looks like he could be something special. if united can do with this kid what barcelona have done with messi when they signed him at 11 or 12 then this kid could be class.

The annoying thing here is that the press say he's "the new Rooney". Christ, is he the benchmark for young players now?

    Not impressed.

No steel in the challenges, no decent tackles. I cannot see him doing well against any of the better premiership defences. I mean to say, the opposition defenders look like they are nine or something. Sheffield United or New Look Newcastle would expose his naivety. Waste of money

Maybe in a few years time he might turn into something, but I reckon that Fergusson will stick with Rooney and Ronaldo for the year, maybe throw this chap on in the Carling Cup or something, at best.
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

I remember a few years ago there was a young Irish kid (an ex pat living in Majorca I think) who was playing in their local u-12 league and he was nine yet far better than anything on display. Apparently Barcelona and United etc were after him. He was the mutts nuts AFAIK.
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.

In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.

Kid looks like he could do a lob for Bohs, someone call Sean Connor and get him to use his "extensive contacts in the UK" to organise a loan deal.

He's as big as Chris Kingsberry and he can beat a man

Had a kid like that in my u-7 team a couple of years ago used to beat every player on the opposition round the keeper and tap in about twelve times every week. It doesn't mean hell be able to do it against players of similar ability as he progresses to a higher level. good luck to him anyway

give him a few years. sometimes ability at a young age translates to success, sometimes it doesnt. in our leeds team, the stars were roy o'donovan (50 goals in a season or something) and eoghan geaney. one's off to the premiership, the other's... not.

Jaysus, when I saw the headline, I thought they signed Robbie Keane!
Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.

Love United's explaination for bending the FA's acadamy rules, "he was already moving near to Manchester we swear!" Will the FA ever bring United to book for their dubious transfer dealings

Some lad from the Manchester academy came on Sky News and was saying how United take on about 30 9-year olds every year and not all of them make it as footballers.

If he could make it, fair play to him.

Another thing is all the English media are going mad because he has an English passport. My staepdad is Australian and he hit the roof when he heard this. He doesn't understand how someone who's from Australia can switch to England when they get slaughtered in the media.

    I thought that too

They'd want to teach him to pass the thing once in a while.

Bit harsh. I was actually impressed the way he could spot a through ball instead of running on until he was tackled.

Lets hope he can make it, England needs some new blood coming through

EDIT: Apparently he was English born but moved out to Australia when he was very very young. Well thats on Wiki anyway, although it can be wrong.

Well then it's not so bad. Still it's going to be tough for him. He'll need to be playing in closed stadiums for a wile with the media following him now. He's only nine years old. Let's hope the media appreciate that and not ruin his life.

Exactly what happened. You jump at the chance to have a dig at Man Utd as usual.
