Interesting. No Liverpool '89 or Arsenal '05 (probably blighted by never doing anything in Europe). Denmark '86 is curious; if you're going to pick a fighting underdog who could play as well, Ireland '88-'90 arguably did more than that Danish team. Denmark got hammered in the '86 World Cup second round.

Only going on teams I've seen I'd say France '98, Italy 2006, Arsenal '04, Czech Republic '96. Greece 2004, Denmark '92 and Lyon '01-present should all be in there.

Only on what i've seen I'd go with Arsenal 04, Liverpool 89, Milan 1992-4, United 94-96, Zidane's Madrid, Zidane's France, current Barcelona team, Brazil 98, with personal favourite mentions for Roy Evan's Liverpool, Kevin Keegan's Newcastle, Sheffield Wednesday 1993, and Limerick FC 03 (not a new club before anyone comments). Although obviously the Liverpool, Newcastle, Wednesday and Limerick teams are only personal favourites

AC Milan 1989-90 were without doubt the greatest club side of all time. I think they are way off the mark putting Celtic 67 as the top British side, the mancs and most definitely the Liverpool 77 Rome side were far superior.

There were several "Greatest" lists in that edition of World Soccer (teams, players etc) and unusually for that publication they were all Anglocentric b0llocks. Wouldn't pay any heed.
A leading authority on League of Ireland football since 2003. You're probably wrong.

Unbelievable that Liverpool 77 is the only liverpool team in the list. From 1977 to 1984, Liverpool won 4 European Cups. They also won the Uefa Cup in 1973 and 1976. They were far superior to Barcelona 1991-1994 for example, who were beaten in the 1991 Cup Winner's Cup by United and hammered 4-0 in the 1994 European Cup by Milan.

The Liverpool 1986-1989 team vs AC Milan 1989 team would have been a true classic.

Man United 1998-1999 should be in that list also.

My five greatest club sides of all time:

    (1) AC Milan 1989-1990
    (2) Liverpool 1977-1978
    (3) Real Madrid (anytime in the late 1950s)
    (4) Ajax (the early 1970s)
    (5) Bayern Munich (the early 1970s)

    International:

    (1) Brazil 1970
    (2) Holland 1974-1978
    (3) Germany 1974
    (4) Italy 1934-1938
    (5) Holland 1988
