"Tear down the watch towers you're going home at last
Farewell to bellaghy, carrickmore and west belfast
with your kit bag on your shoulder and a tear all in your eye
well pardon me for smiling while I'm waving you goodbye"
Never thought I'd see the day. Fantastic Day for Ireland. please god they'll never be "needed" again
On the one hand I do think they stopped the two communities wiping each other out. On the other of course they were foreign soldiers on Irish land. Some of the arrogant majors and the like who used to give interviews after some poor innocent was shot dead by the army used to defy belief for the tripe they'd come out with. Had little sympathy for them or for the record the IRA either.
I felt for the nationalist community stuck between the two and John Hume will always be a hero of mine.
Anyway, please God we won't ever see them back on the streets of Ireland again.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
