I don't know how they hope to get away with this phishing email.

Here's the angle,

You get an e-mail from some guy saying he was paid to kill you by someone who hates you but if you agree to pay a fee ($10,000) he will agree to drop the hit.The e-mail states that he knows where you work & live and he'll call into your job/home at any time so to have the money with you.
