Monaghan United’s Under 21’s team have drawn their first game in the Foyle Cup competition when they played Derry City last night. John Heffernan’s charges took a point when Khalid Hussain scored for United. Derry City will be expecting to win this tournament and were tough opposition but United played well to a man to keep themselves in with a chance of winning the Foyle Cup. It was a welcome return to football for Cian Mackey who is just back to fitness and he played very well but picked up a slight back injury and may have to rest for the remainder of the tournament. New signing Blaine Nugent is proving his worth and the faith that Heffernan has shown in him as he had another excellent game for United.
Mons take on TuS Altenberge tonight at 7pm and if they can beat the German side, they are in with a very good chance of winning the Cup.
United beat TuS Altenberge 4-0 on Wed nite. Not sure of any other results at mo.
