Would have been fantastic though like to see him back in England, surely he cant be that bad would efinitly do a job for Derby Sunderland birmingham.

Kluivert is a great player. But doesn't have the right attitude.

Wouldn't touch Kluivert with a bargepole now even if he offered to play for peanuts. He lost his appetite a long time ago and hasn't been a force in 3 or 4 years.

We need another striker alright, Kluviert might do the job, but hopefully Laws will be able to tell if his attitude is right during the trial.

As for it being a bizarre transfer, well even though the mighty Owls are in the Championship at the moment, we're still one of the bigger clubs in England, certainly in the top 20, and it's only a matter of time til we get back to the Premier/get a new investor/do both

Kluivert's not what he used to be. Released on a free by Barca, iirc, went to Newcastle, left after one year to Valencia, again left after one year to PSV and now he's been released by them too. Clearly, he's not up to it or just has a poor attitude. Somewhere like Wednesday would be too good for him.

At 31, I'd say it's highly unlikely he'll change his attitude and he'll just want a comfort zone. I think Wednesday are a progressive club and signing him would be a bad move, imo. A big name with an attitude problem could upset a lot of the current squad. It will attract more fans for a while but when he leaves, they'll leave too.

In fairness (in defensive mode here), we're one of the best supported teams outside the Premiership (and a lot better than a few of them too), and don't need short term signings to boost attendences, so I'd only look at him if he showed some desire to play for the club.

No doubt Dirty Leeds will look to sign him now though, as this whole thing smacks of something Ken Bates would want a part of

I know that but doesn't Hillsborough hold 40k+ and last I heard your average attendances were in the 20ks. There's plenty of room for improvement there. I wasn't suggesting Laws would want to sign him for that. His international goalscoring record (40 in 79) is proof enough. I was merely pointing out it would be an additional occurence and then if he were to leave, you'd lose that.

I imagine so. I remember Bates tried to sign him for us a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure Hillsborough is just under 40k, 39k and change as far as I can remember, with our average attendence in the high 20s, 28 or 29k. Put that in comparison with the other 'big' teams in the Football Leagues and we're doing well though

Average attendance last season around 24k. It's all very well to have a big ground but even when they were last in the Premiership they had many gates in the 25k region. Sure, they are one of the bigger clubs outside the Premiership but the last league title was in 1935 and the only trophy since then I think was the league cup in 1991 (Sheridan goal) so they're not a big club.

The signing of Kluivert would generate a bit of interest but I don't think he'll change the fortunes of the club which needs massive investment to get anywhere.

I'd still regard them in the top 20 clubs in Britain though Owlsfan, they're certainly bigger than Birmingham, Bolton, Fulham, Reading, Portsmouth, and Wigan, and on par with Middlesborough, Blackburn, and Derby in Premiership. In the Football Leagues I'd say that Forest and Leeds are the only clubs that you could say are bigger with certainity.

Apparantly Kluviert has turned down a trial at Wednesday anyway, he wanted a straight deal or nothing, and I think Laws wants to take a look at him in action before signing him, so it won't happen I reckon

sorry jebus, i didnt mean bizaare as in wednesday not being a big enough club, i'd just assume that kluivert would, given his attitude, looking for a cash cow move, not to a progressive club on the right track to rebuilding.

he would get a decent wedge and will also be a superstar in Scotland.

They are bigger than all those clubs with the exception of Leeds. Wolves would be on a par with them in the Championship.
