    Greatest turnaround?

After five successive seasons bottom of the Scottish Division Three, East Stirling have now won five games on the trot this year, taking them up to second (their highest position in ten years), already with more points than 2003/04, just one point short of 2002/03 and half way to the other three seasons' points tallies. Included in that run is their first Cup win in over seven years. Latest win was a 3-2 away win, after being 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go.

Fairly remarkable turnaround. Don't know if there's any to rival that?

Whoever's in charge will be the next Alex Ferguson.

Lots of clubs that have been caught with their pants down financially have gone down to lower leagues and returned e.g. Toulouse, Fiorentina and Larisa in Greece.

HSV's reverse-turnaround last season was pretty shocking. They went from runners-up to relegation candidates.

There is also the story of Man City. Winning the old First Division in 1937, relegated in 1938.

I can't remember who it was with but Brian Clough took either Forest or Derby from relegation candidates in the Second Division to league champions, to Division 1 champions in successive seasons. If it was Forest he then went one better and won the European Cup in two successive seasons, while at Derby he reached the semis.

I may be wrong but I have a very vague recollection of Northampton Town gaining 3 consecutive promotions to the old 1st division and then getting 3 consecutive relegations back to where they started in the 4th division in the 1960s.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Also, Nuernburg won the Bundesligain 1968 and went down the following year.

Notts County, Carlisle United and Wimbledon / MK Dons have managed the complete footballing bungee jump in my lifetime going from bottom of the old fourth to top (albeit very briefly) of the old first and.................back down again

Surely unfashionable Wigan Atletic deserve an honourable mention for their current and meteoric climb up the leagues. Just shows what money and passion can achieve in the heartland of another sport.

In our League, Shelbourne were anchored in the first division for the early years weren't they? Then along came Ollie (RIP) and now they are back to the rebuilding process all over again.

    Funny old game.

When Kenny took over they were rock bottom of the first, roughly around Kilkenny's level for the past few years - how long did it take to get them into Europe

The first bet on alot of peoples coupon on a Saturday used to be whoever was playing East Stirling, its mad to see to them up near the top now, but its a **** level of soccer so it wouldnt take much of a team to be up near the top of it.
