Out of all the Minneapolis bands (Husker Du, Soul Asylum etc) the Replacements are the kings.

Appreciate that! Rzeznik is also a self-confessed Westerberg copycat. I only have one of his (Westerberg's) albums 'Suicaine Gratification' but I can't recommend it enough! As for The Replacements, I've only heard a few songs but they're bloody great!Originally posted by WeAreRovers

I would wholeheartedly recommend that you buy ANYTHING with Westerberg's name on it!
There's a Replacements best of called All For Nothing/Nothing For All. It's a 2 CD job and is quite pricey. Other than that their best albums are Let It Be and Tim.
Let It Be has been reissued by Rykodisc and Tim is on Warners, both should be easy enough to lay your hands on. Go in to Empire and ask for Sorcha, she's a mate of mine and will sort you out with some sounds!
Never a huge Soul Asylum fan but The Horse They Rode In On and Hangtime are two great albums. As you may have guessed I'm an oul fella and have been listening to American punk/hardcore/rock for more years than I care to remember, so if you want any dodgy advice just ask!

What about Tommy Keene and/or The Plimsouls? Any thoughts? You mentioned Husker Du earlier too, great band. I like Mould's second group Sugar a lot too.

I know very little about the Plimsouls but their singer Peter Case has some fine solo albums to his credit. The Plimsouls were a power pop band whereas Case's solo stuff is more countryish.
Husker Du were obviously one of the greats but I'd be more of a Grant Hart man than Bob Mould. Hart's first solo album, Intolerance, is class.
If you ever get a chance check out a band called Nuisance. They were from California and were on Lookout Records (original home to Green Day). They only made two albums, Confusion Hill and Sunny Side Down. Very hard to find but well worth it. They were pretty much a straight mix of Husker Du/Replacements with a dash of Green Day.
Million Miles Away was The Plimsouls crowning moment. Haven't heard any of Peter Case's solo stuff. The only Grant Hart album I have is 'Good News For The Modern Man' which disappointed me a bit because he wrote a lot of my favourite Du songs and his own album was a bit gutless for me. Will watch out for Nuisance, any tracks you'd recommend to download to give me an idea of their sound? And I presume you're aware of the merits of old Goo Goo Dolls stuff (especially 'Superstar Car Wash')?
