Anyone know the reasoning or any ideas why he was there? He must of been impressed with some of the lads.....
On another issue any chance of 1st team squad section being updated on web site maybe a small bio on each pleyer or something?
Don't know the exact reason he was there but Athlone were approached by Rovers to see if they could take Ronan Frawley until the end of the season. This request was turned down according to the papers.
The are looking for a centre half to replace one of their long term injured players, think it is Aidan Price.
Maybe Tommy, Wayne or Robbie witheld a pair of Rovers socks after a game...I hear they're very tight up at Rovers..
Just speculating but would they be looking at Kevin Waters?? He is turning into the best player in the division?/..........or wants to see what their ex keepers brother,who is much taller,is like??There were hardly there to see how the boys are doing back home???

Apparently Byrne has already declined a move to Rovers because "even if he went there full-time, he wouldn't earn close to what he earns in Athlone"

Don't know how much our wage bill is exactly but it wouldn't be any more than what Finn Harps and Dundalk are paying out. We are operating in profit and thats all that counts.
I wouldn't be worrying about that though your main concern should be your wage bill (€5000 apparently)and the way the crowds have dropped, no advertisements round the pitch and possibly a chance that ye have another Danny Drew(with a personality)running the club.
Can't see how ye are cos I know how much two of your players are on, and I'm presuming the resto of the squad are on at least a par with that. Ye don't get great gates, so I'm presuming Paddy McFaul is getting some big big sponsorship up there.

look to be dwindling back to the 250-300 that we averaged in Mels.
€15 entrance fee and poor football on display over the past few months
hasn't helped. Last 2 home games we looked a bit more lively but couldn't
convert chances into goals
If we didnt have so many injuries at the moment I'd be inclined to off load
Davy Byrne if there was anyone willing to pay for him. He's only performed
in about 3 games all year (that I've seen, and I cant really remember 2 of
them. Kildare away in June stands out though)
Not quite sure whats going on with Ronan Frawley. I always thought he was a good
player and would be a Town great, but unfortunately this season he hasnt looked at
the races at all so far. Maybe cos he was switching between right full and centre half.
Anytime he's played full back he seemed to get dragged into the middle of defence,
leaving a gaping hole down the wing ... and when he plays centre half he sometimes
drifts out to full back, leaving the middle of defence exposed!!!
Read on the paper though that Scully had approached the Club but they turned him down.
They told Ronan about the approach and he said he would have liked to join such a big Club,
but the bottom line was he is a Town player and if the Club want to keep him, so be it.

Arguing with a fan the other day abouot attendances, p.o's and so on, i dont care what anybody says bout advertising or whatever, Attendences come with success. You might only have your match advertised on errortel but if your top 3 you will make 500+, for top table clash 700-800, 1st vs 2nd possibly the 1000.

Don't know if you have seen the new ground yet but the entire perimeter of the pitch is covered in advertising signs. We then put up boarding behind one of the goals and filled that with advertising. We are now using the back wall of the stand to fit more in. Think we have 88 in total at a minimum of €700 a pop
We have the bar on match nights. Our jersey has the main sponsor Ganlys Hardware on the front, a sponsor on the back, both sleeves have different sponsors on each, Bus Eireann sponsor us as well so that takes a lot of the cost of travel.
Our match programme which has now become a book of advertisemnets other than 10 pages of stuff you can read contains 30 ads on average every week at the minimum cost of €200 a programme. Thats even €6000
Our golden goal at home matches makes enough profit every week to pay a player.
These are just simple things but they all add up and I am sure there are more ways they bring in money.
We have an excellent executive committee made up of some of the top businessmen in the midlands. They mightn't be football men but they know how to make money.
Putting it simply if you have the right men at the top any amount of money can be raised

Im not sure about that. The prices printed in the programme says Programme Advert from €200 + VAT
What people need to push with companies is if they give money to a sporting organisation it can be written off in tax so they are better giving it that way instead of to the exchequer.
Is the core of the programme the same every match, with extra pages stitiched in for team news, opponent profiles etc? If so, it is a season price, which sounds fair, and offers you the chance to get extra advertising on the cover and team sheet.
Pretty much. Only thing that changes is in the opennig message
"We would like to welcome the players, officials and supporters of
<insert team here>"
And there's usually a player interview and maybe a small piece on the
2 clubs previous record against each other.
The rest is the squad listing and adverts.

Looking through a programme for our match vs Kildare earlier in the season and 13 of the 33 ads in it are full page ads from companies most of which are operating nationwide.
