Sounds like 4-3-2-1 points system talk to me!![]()
Whats the story with so many 0-0 scorelines in the premier and 1st division?
I know there is'nt a lot that can be done but If we are to get more people going to matches they wont be encouraged by readind 0-0 scorelines in the paper or teletext.
I think the FAI should encourage teams to score more goals by giving teams a bonus for the ammount of goals scored or something along those lines.

Personally I don't want a change in the points system but I understand that you want to make things more entartaining/attractive, I just want to say that I hate the idea of giving a bonus for goals scored etc, as someone who respects teams who grind out 1-0's etc I just think that it'd be unfair and create a `gung-ho` culture, some people would like that.. IMO.. if it is `the beautiful game` then why change it?
Also if the EL has a different points system to the rest of Europe it probably wont help attract neutrals etc..

What I mean by a bonus is a financial bonus.Nothing to do with points.
lets say there were 300 goals scored by EL teams last season the FAI found 100-200k from somewhere and said we will devide this between the teams in the EL if yous can score 400.Something like that.
I know it sound a bit stupid considering the current Rovers team was built on from a solid defence.
i can see it now. UCD and Bray draw 58-58 in a meaningless last day game, dragging the league over the quota. Fans of other clubs grudgingly accept that it was worth having them around.

Something along the lines of the disciplinary table?
I think it's just been a freak weekend for scores. It happens in every league now and again, juts as it happens in the opposite direction where there's loadsa goals. No need to go into anervous breakdown over the quality of the league about it.

Didnt coca-cola offer money if there was 1000 or more goals scored overall in the english championship 2 years ago. But tbh we have only had one or two nil - nil draws this season afaik.
Exactly. Defending is part of the game too. Surely every supporter wants to see his team keep a clean sheet ? I'm all in favour of bucket loads of goals, as long as Pats are scoring and not conceeding them. Which would you prefer, to see your team draw 0-0, or get a 4-0 thumping ? In an ideal world of course, your team would won every game 4-3, coming from behind 3 times to score a last minute winner (right Derry fans ?)
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.
rubbish
defending is an art form... only barstoolers cant appreciate good defending.
If it upsets you that much just back the 0-0 draw in every match with the bookies and you'll clean up. You can often get 7/1 for games in Belfield finishing 0-0 (UCD v Bohs tonight!)
In France last season they had prisemoney for the teams who scored the most goals. At the end of the season it differed very slightly from the final league table though.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"
A year or two ago, I found a website with all sorts of statistics from almost every league in Europe.
What was interesting was the higher standard the league, the least amount of goals scored per game. The lower standard leagues scored more freeley.
But then I always found the lower standard Irish League more entertaining than the higher standard English Premiership.

Hasn't football as a whole taken a more defensive turn in the last few years? Certainly only Barcelona have bucked the trend in European football of defensive teams = success
I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. In our two cup games against Galway United there was first a 2-2 draw and then a 0-0 draw. The first game was a lot more exciting, but the second was a far better standard. Both teams were organized and defensively solid, far more so than in the first match. I actually enjoyed the second game just as much as the first. That said, that was probably because I was a lot happier about Harps prospects for the season after the second as I was now convinced we could actually defend. On the other hand I'm sure a neutral would have enjoyed the first game a lot more, even if the standard wasn't great.
I would agree that the better the standard the fewer goals overall.

Pats last 2 games have been excellent 0-0 draws. Most on here commented about what a good game it was between ourselves and Rovers. I'll grant you some games are boring but thats football the world over
