What team will he play? I'd guess;
Given
Carr, O'Shea, Breen, Finnan
McAteer, Kinsella, Holland, Duff,
Keane, Morrision
or perhaps he'll hold onto Harte at left back?
Oh no not them again
ffs !
Only messing.
But where's the expected revolution?
What do ya want him to do!?
Lose Connolly and Carsley.
Is Crowe still unfit?
And bring in WHO to replace them?Originally posted by Badweather Fan

If Jason McAteer is the answer, then surely the wrong questions are being asked.
But I suppose he'll only be a squad member. (fingers crossed)
imo jof is better than connoly. i stand over that.Originally posted by oddboy

I one of the very first full games Connolly played for his country, he scored a hat trick after that he went down hill. when he went to Holland ... it was al over.
O'Flynn ..... any day of the week.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
No offence lads, I rate O'Flynn very highly but I'm still waiting to hear a non Cork fan want him called into the senior squad... Connolly is still banging them in the first whereas O'Flynn couldn't get his game a division further down the ladder. I'd like to see him in the U-21 team but that's as much as I'd do for now.Originally posted by A face

slk sits back and waits for the backlash.
The ball is round and has many surprises.
Well, I was being a tad facetious when I suggested J O'F, but to copy somethig that was said earlier, if Connolly is the answer, we have a problem.
He seems to be the opposite of Breen, ie, plays well at club level, shouldn't be allowed carry the gear for the national side.
Surely, with the amount of trawling the UK that Givens obviously does, there is a better option to be found?
I have to say I'd rate Crowe above him.
Me too. we can agree on that!Originally posted by oddboy

well. they wanted jof back recently - how ironic. probably realised their mistake. i dont think you can judge things as simply as that slk. outside of thetop few teams in england there isnt much depth in english football anymore. its the reason the same few english teams keep qualifying for the champions league. elsewhere its more fluid.
by your criteria staunton failed at dundalk. you have to look at the way hes playing now, not in the past. maybe irish coaches are better able to recgonise potential? (proof our countries yoth teams)
as for a backlash. after the mayhem you caused on the el board ill spare you from that![]()

Sure, it's in the past now. Still don't think JOF has earned a senior squad place, for now I'd leave him in the U-21's.

I have to say I'm disappointed there aren't more young players in the squad. As far as I'm concerned, I don't care who's playing first team football or who isn't or where, we should have our most promising players in the squad. F*ck McAteer, call up Thomas Butler instead, he's got a future. So what if he isn't in the Sunderland first team. Call up O'Flynn, Thornton, Partridge and others. Who cares if they don't have "international experience", throw them to the lions and see how they fare.
This is what the Portuguese have been doing for years. Nuno Gomes was one of the stars of Euro2000, but he was hardly an established international player.
Young, skilled players are what the Ireland team needs for the future, and we have them. We don't need a team of Gary Breens (sing along), Kilbanes, Gary Kellys and McAteers - these are yesterday's men.
Hopefully Brian Kerr is the man to inject some youth into the side, and he's started well by putting Reid and O'Shea into the team. I hope he continues casting off the driftwood, because I don't think I can stomach a midfield of Kilbane - Holland - Kinsella - McAteer.
