Also recall hearing that Linfield played Dundalk in Europe as well around that time and one of the ties had to be played in England or something due to security concerns!
Shamrock Rovers-Linfield game was 0-0 in Belfast and 1-1 in Milltown. Linfield fans were banned from Milltown as it was in the wake of the trouble at the Bohs v Rangers game although a few hundred still went. It was in 1984. Dundalk game was 1979. 1-1 at Oriel with serious trouble which resulted in Linfield being punished and their home game being played in Holland with the Blues losing 2-0.

It's true alright young man, but since the late 80s relations between both sets have been very good, visits to each other's games, t-shirts, fanzines etc.

As for the EC 1984 v Linfield....looking forward to revenge in the Setanta next year!
