Cliftonville V KAA Gent- Intertoto cup

First leg just ended and it finished 2-0 to Gent with former Bohs man Foley getting both the goals, Declan O'Hara and a Gent player were sent off very near the end It seems there was a bit of trouble between the players, also Gent fans were throwing flares on the pitch at one stage!

Ah Well 2-0 not so bad a result against a team like Ghent I suppose

Given the fact that Cliftonville have suffered a few heavier defeats in Europe to worse teams than Gent - I'm happy with the improvement in our European record since the 8-0 defeat in Kosice in 98.

Well said ORPCS we are only a part time team and Gent did pretty well in last years Intertoto cup so they are obviously a quality side.

Anyway if I remember correctly we haven't done that much worse than Bohs did when they played them a couple of years ago!

Anyway good luck to Cork in the Intertoto, even if some of their fans feel the need to put the boot into Cliftonville!

The Reds are still in there even if Ghent are the favourites. Hope there's a decent gate at Solitude for the second leg.

I dont feel the need to "put the boot in". Best of luck to Cliftonville! heres hoping we play them in the Setanta Cup sooner rather than later.

But you're only kidding yourselves if you think a 2-0 defeat to a belgian midtable side shows you're no push-overs.

Losing 2 - 0 away from home to a fully professional side who belongs to a league far superior to anything this island has to offer is not a bad result for a team like Cliftonville who have been no where in Irish Football since they won the league in 98.

its not a bad result, probably to be expected for any IL side, but it doesnt mean they "showed they were no push overs"... maybe if they'd grabbed a goal against the run of play, or even made the 2-0 win pretty difficult for Ghent. Mach report seems to say this didnt happen.

The Carnegie Premier League outfit never really found their stride against a well-drilled Ghent side and their misery was compounded when Declan O`Hara, along with the home side`s Christophe Gregoire, were dismissed in the second half.

Yeah, just read a few reports, your right It's not a bad result but it seems Cliftonville never done anything in the match to say that they where no push overs.

Hopefully Cliftonville could do a bit ore at Solitude.

Also in the last 4 seasons an IL team has got past the 1st round in Europe 3 times. So Your sly dig at IL football isn't really called for here.

The return leg is at Windsor is it not? Cliftonville can not play at Solitude as it doesn't hold a UEFA license. Part of the transfer fee between Linfield and Cliftonville for Conor Downey was the use of Windsor for European matches, therefore Cliftonville listed Windsor in order to be granted a license.

I should also state Dungannon Swifts are also using Windsor Park for their European matches, however unlike the Cliftonville deal, Linfield will get a cut from whatever Dungannon make from the match. I think.

Your right, it's just natural for me to think Cliftonville skank would be playing at Solitude rather than our hallowed turf.

I don't think Linfield will make 2 much money ( if any) from Dungannon playing at Windsor. they could only manage about 300 to the Irish cup semi-final
