    Armenia

    Anyone been?

Have been reading up on it and it certainly doesn't seem the worst of the ex-Soviet Republics, but it has certainly suffered a lot following the 1988 earthquake and the ongoing conflict with Azerbijan.

I always wanted to go, lots to see and do there and Yerevan is the best city in the southern FSU, but logisitically it's a bit of a nightmare getting there.

These guys were the only people I found who went there:-

and they are pretty expensive to be honest, and not sure you'd see the best the country has to offer if you went with them.

As with every away trip make your own way. From looking at the map fly into Ankara or Tehran and get the train in if possible. Sounds like a fascinating trip to be honest.

    How many Derry are going?

NY Hoop, nearly everyone is flying via Prague including the team and club officials. I suspect we'll have 40-50 fans plus club party of 35.

Your nemesis DCFCSteve is travelling via Moscow I believe, so we won't have to listen to him on such a long journey (only joking Steve )

A few of us are taking the opportunity to spend this weekend in Prague to "break the journey up"....

Lucky you! Though I suspect you'll have one or two who'll make their own way anyway.

What is the itinerary and how much is the trip?

Due to work pressures and the slight hope of a 2nd round trip to Donestk in 2 weeks time, most of us are arriving into Yerevan at 4am on Tuesday morning and departing at 5am on Thursday after the game.

Staying in the Marriott in Republic square. On the agenda are a trip to an orphanage, tour of the city, visit the genocide memorial, sampling of the famous Armenian apricot brandy and no doubt a few scoops of the local brew. Obviously no real time to get out into the countryside which is a shame.

Also is likely to be ridiculously hot.

Flights are approx 530 euro, we all booked individually and the club followed when they couldn't sort a charter out. A few others going via Paris and London on BA.
