For my part, if I could thank that post from East Terracer more than once, I would. Dunno why most of the LoI players have Dutch (or Luxembourgese?) flags beside them though. And that's a serious Brazil side; fair dues to the LoI to keep it to 2-0 for 70 minutes. Also, I'm impressed that I immediately latched on to the two most annoying aspects of Smyth per the Guardian article (the accent and the aul onion bag).

    Here's a 1970s friendly v. Turkey, the last time a home-based player scored for national team :

This one got thrown up in related vids; it includes Ireland's goal, which seemingly didn't make it into the version currently linked.

I'm hoping to find a youtube clip from the "Green is the Colour" documentary last year where Mick McCarthy describes with pride how he holds the record for the most fouls in one world cup tournament or match. He goes on about kicking Hagi up and down the pitch in the Romania match in Genoa. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

If no one can help you out I will attempt to pull the clip from the DVD when I get home over the weekend.

Just came across this footage on YouTube; it's ITV's pre-match, half-time and full-time analysis of the game against England at Euro '88, featuring Ian St. John and Brian Clough, who revels in the fact that Mick McCarthy was declared fit to play as he dismisses Mick's international credentials:

Football pie all over his shirt, as Alan Partridge might have said.

Bobby Robson's overbearing concern in his post-match interview seems to be with the straightness of his tie!

Not sure if there's a specific video of just that section of the documentary floating around, but you'll find it here from 34:40:

Balls.ie posted this up this evening: http://balls.ie/football/rte-news-us...ostalgic-gold/

This has been lying in the depths of YouTube waiting for us to bask in its warm arms and victorious smile. Sit down, forget about the worries of today and enjoy these five minutes and 35 seconds of pure nostalgia.

Tens of Irish fans are interviewed, all delirious with joy and many looking slightly worse for wear. It also features Paul Reynolds in New York revealing how police were called to 2nd Avenue during the festivities to bring about order, as if it were some sort of achievement. After all the sing-songs and whatnot, they then move onto the actual sports news where the late, great Colm Murray gives us exactly what we want; Houghton’s goal again.

Watch it, enjoy it and appreciate Terry Phelan, director of that fabled goal celebration. Can you remember where you were on the day it happened?

Had to double-check my memory was still functioning OK there: "... Wait, Tommy Coyne was still playing for us in 2004, and scored a goal in a game against Holland?!"

I always re-call the front cover for the game FIFA '96 having come from that match. It featured Jason McAteer jostling and chasing down a ball with one of the De Boer brothers:

Came across this, probably videos of goals from the games already but I remember having this recorded on VHS for years. I'm sure the programme itself was called 'How Many Yen to a Euro?', but it's basically the RTÉ programme of our WC 2002 qualification campaign.

The Morocco game from 1990 didn't seem to make P.Stu's list on the previous page (our goal is on 4mins). The last Senior International to be played at Dalymount I believe.
