The figure is supposidly closer to 6 Million. But it was reported on UEFA.com as 24million yoyos.

Personally I think the 6 million figure is closer to the truth.

If that is a correct fee, then I think Wenger has made a major boob. For an extra few quid he could have got Eto

The BBC seem to be following Sky Sports in their reporting, because BBC are now reporting 16million sterling.

It will probably only come to that with add ons. £8m upfront seems like a good deal given his goalscoring record.

In the Croation league though. Wouldn't be on par with Scottish football.

Almost 3 goals every 4 games is impressive in almost any league. 7 in 12 internationals too.

Peter Thompson has scored 106 goals in 159 games.

Last season he scored 31 in 51
Season before he scored 48 in 58
His first season in senior football was 27 in 50.

Impressive goalscoring but he wouldn't be any higher than Championship standard(although I'm sure with better players around him, better trainers and better training techniques, he could turn into a real smasher)

My point is that this player is very much untested at a high level. Yeah he has a good international start, but statistics don't always tell the full story. Going by International goals, David Healy would be worth 35million lol.

Da Silva could very well be a great signing and bang in loads of goals, but I do not think I would risk 16 million on him when I know for an extra 5 million I can get a real cracker in Eto.

With the conflicting reports, it would appear that 16mill is the max it could end up with probably a lot of clauses to be satisfied.
Where did ye get the idea that Eto'o is available for 21mill?
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

I doubt he'll be another Francis Jeffers.

Wenger knows what he is doing when he dabs into the foreign leagues.

Paper talk mate. I've seen 20-25 million mention in more than one place.

Except Eto wouldn't drop down a level to go to Arsenal

I can't believe people on here are doubting Wenger's ability to spot a good player. He has the best organised scouting operations in England, just look at the players he's gotten for a pittance over the years. Now he has to splash out but it's only fair really.

I'm sure there were similar discussions when Wenger paid £10m (iirc) for a sulky French right winger that flopped at Juve.......and look what happened.

As there were when Wenger paid £13m for Wiltoord & £8m for Jeffers. A good manager & finder of talent that he undoubtedly is there have been at least as many high profile flops as success's

Indeed. Also Reyes, bought him around the 20 million mark, seeling around the 8 million mark.

Wenger a great coach/manager and I have huge respect for him. But if I where an Arsenal supporter I would be very frustrated here.

Arsenal should have won more leagues/trophies by now. But have flopped massivelly in recent times.

Wenger should try and buy a few players for NOW, not the future, because it seems the future will never come for Arsenal.
