    Torres & Liverpool

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is closing in on a deal that should see Fernando Torres move to Anfield.

Djibril Cisse is the latest player to be offered to Atletico Madrid to try and limit the amount of cash included in the deal.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has already started preparing fans for the exit of Torres by stating today (Tuesday 26th) that there is nothing he can do to stop the player signing for Liverpool.

KopTalk sources insist that the player has turned down the opportunity to be shown the training facilities at Melwood after declaring his intentions to join the club regardless, providing a fee can be agreed with his current employers.

Staff at Melwood, Liverpool's training ground, are on site and are ready to proceed with a medical at a minute's notice.

Rafa has already stipulated that he wants Torres on Merseyside as soon as a deal looks close, so that the player can be ferried to Melwood immediately because of possible late interference from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

    I don't know Gustavo.
    His goalscoring record is brilliant.
Being an atletico diehard probably rules out joining the big two more than playing for any other Spanish club.
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

His goalscoring record is ok, he's definitely not prolific, so I hope supporters don't expect too much of him.

    Looks very good to me.
Not brilliant I suppose but Atletico haven't been a top team recently.

That's never a problem for top goalscorers.

Personally I can't see why there's so much hype about him, granted though I haven't seen him play all that much.

Nor have I. But from those figures you have to say he's been consistent over the last few years. It's not a huge leap for a manager to think he could turn him into a 20+ goalscorer.

75 goals in 173 games. Hardly aww inspiring.

His career is 82 goals in 212 games. Compare that to Van Nistlerooy he has scored 212 goals in 354 games.

Playing for Man. United, Real Madrid and alongside Luc Nilis for PSV.
    Must be noted.
Atletico haven't been a top 6 team in 10 years so its the equivalent of someone having that strike rate over 5 years with Charlton.
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

Darren Bent has scored 31 goals in 68 games for Ipswich. Still a better ratio.

He has scored 78 Career goals in 190 games which includes worse teams than Torres. Ipswich and Charlton are worse than Athletico.

Also Van Nistlerooys statistics included 100 games and scoring only 30 goals for FC Den Bosch and Harenveen in his early career.

Ipswich play in the Championship. Those Charlton figures are impressive

Villas record is superior and would be a better signing for any team
    Sporting de Gijón 80 (38)
    Real Zaragoza 73 (31)
    Valencia 71 (40)
so thats a career total of 109 goals in 224 not bad at all!

I don't see why he'd leave valencia though.
Similar to when the british papers were saying Tottenham were keeping an eye on Freddie Kanoute.
    Whoop de ****ing doo.
    Why would he go there?*

*excluding the offer of ridiculous money.

Charlton have been a mid table team for the most part and were relegated last year. Comparing them to Athletico Madrid who are usually close to Europe is ridiculous.

Can't say I've seen Torres much but he's been captain of Athletico since he was very young, which suggests that he brings a very strong personality to the table. That's just what Pool need in a striker.

He also is a creater of goals. I think if he plays up front with Kuyt, both could get 15-20 goals. I also fancy him to work well with Crouch.

How do you reckon he's a creater of goals, if you haven't seen him play much?

Torres is the most overvalued player in Europe. Living off supposed potential his whole career. Never going to be intelligent enough to make it big.

I don't know but imagine Atletico haven't qualified for Europe in ages whereas i think Charlton have.
    Open to correction.
PS. Atletico relegated 6years ago aswell.

Atletico are a much bigger club than Charlton, there's just no comparison. Atletico are on the verge of signing Forlán and Riquelme, can't see either of them lining out for Charlton this side of 2010...

Torres to Liverpool is a done deal. ~£20m plus Luis Garcia. About £16m plus Luis Garcia over the odds...
