    Question "Ski Magee"

    From RTE Aertel
Limerick boss Paul McGee hit out last week saying that midweek fixtures were crippling First Division clubs after his side faced an FAI Cup replay against Wexford on Tuesday.

Speaking in the Irish Independent, McGee said: 'We're all part-time and it is difficult to get players off work for midweek games. We've been on a break so lads were on holidays, then they return and straight away have to ask for a half-day, at least, from work. We also have to travel to Dundalk next Tuesday, probably a day off for most lads, and that's a serious problem for anybody with a day job.'

McGee makes a valid point, one that many of his rival managers would echo, and it seems odd that the FAI still persist with midweek games in the First Division.
"You'll not see nothing like the Shelbourne team"

It's not like this is a new problem. Clubs have dealt with this for decades.

Playing thirty six games in a part time league is a bit rough. The FAI should have reduced it to three rounds. More games to be played in the First Division too, resulting in more being played mid-week.

Why should they have to? Why should clubs get preferrential treatment because they're full-time?

Ya its true, no wonder Dundalk are top of the League!! In the past week L37 had two matches on Tuesday night and in Wexford we were missing Buckley due to work and last night Finnucane was missing and Conor Molan were missing due to work!! It shouldnt happen and even the Friday matches are stupid!! How are teams in the South (e.g Cobh) expected to travell 6-7 hours up to Ballybofey to play Finn harps after a long week in work and maybe not return home until 2-3 in th morning!! Madness IMo

You're right. Clubs with more money should have to share their income with poorer clubs too, and perhaps we should have some sort of draft for youth talent.

That was a cup replay. When do you suggest replays are played if not midweek?
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

With the amount of games to be played and the mid-season break there is no choice but to play matches midweek. The best thing to do would be to arrange matches between teams that are close to each other to reduce travelling.
