    Unhappy Is it just me

or are people getting whacked everyday in Ireland.

Seriously, every morning I checked the RTE website to check whats new back home and there is always someones body found lying somewhere in a field or freezer or whatever.

Its becoming a problem me thinks. Its like one long episode of the sopranos.
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.

In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.

torn-ado, i notice the exact same stuff, but i think its because we are away from home you notice it more. You always check breakingnews.ie or rte.ie once a day at least and you see it, whereas when you are at home you wouldnt bother doing this and you dont take as much notice.

I do think its a combination of factors but more to do with taking notice when you are away from home, because you are reading the news a lot more.

Maybe but I used to watch the news back home and there would never be much about murders in Ireland. Car crashes and tribunals on the other hand.

Paul, you'd like to think so, but sadly it's more down to the fact that people are going around killing eachother.

Feud on RTE lastnight was a pretty grim look at the times we live in.

was on the phone home to my mum the other night, she told me the amount of murders is going up. Said the same thing........murders on the news everyday.

She also said it was the immigrants fault.

Seems like it is increasing. I live in London and feel that it is increasing here as well, 8 violent deaths last weekend alone, court case yesterday where a guy was killed becuase he mistook a "gang memeber" for a friend and greeted him on the street. This was taken as him dissing the other guy so they stabbed him, it sure is a crazy world.

I suppose the murder rate in Japan is the immigrants fault too

I miss the days when the main national news show would include stories like 'Mrs.Rafferty's house was burgled today' alright, Miley Byrne's Ireland is dead and gone people

trust me, everything which is wrong with japan is the foreigners fault.

Yasukuni shrine and museum Scroll down to the "A correct view of history" paragraph.

    or

Gaijin Crime Magazine. Gaijin means foreigner. A magazine devoted to displaying some of the many crimes foreigners commit daily. Scroll down for excerpts from the magazine.

It's probably un-PC to say it, but an awful lot of these people appear to shall, for want of a better phrase, have had it coming to them. Drug dealers, gang leaders, dodgy foreigners. No big loss really. Obviously that's not meant to be a generalisation of every case, but I'm not exactly feeling threatened by scumbags whacking each other (almost added an "off" there...).

That said, there has been an increase in "body found" stories lately. (Another one found by the road in Louth today. Foul play not suspected, according to the latest reports on Aertel.) Could be just a statistical anomoly though.

couldnt agree more. these people are for the most part vermin, As one poster on the Bohs message board likes to call them. Everytime i hear of a gangland related murder im just thankful that its another scumbag off the street.

The only thing wrong with that is that it leads to a situation where certain groups of people think they are free to shoot, stab, or otherwise do away with anyone they feel like. Sure, no one sheds many tears for drug dealers or gang members, but it all leads to the cheapening of human life, and ultimately makes people feel they can kill with impunity, for example that young bloke who was shot for simply being in wrong house when a drug dealer was topped.

Oh absolutely. But you're generalising already to an extent. Sure, there are cases like the one you mention, but it's a large exception in these instances. You say it "leads to the cheapening of human life". You could possibly argue that, in most cases, the lives concerned were worthless anyway, given the amount of torment drugs, drug dealers, etc., can put people through.

I suppose my bottom line is that I don't feel a tabloid-esque sense of panic because scumbags are warring with each other (with occasional tragic consequences like you mentioned).

Problem is that the situation you're happy with creates a breeding ground for experienced killers. I prefer the plain old drug dealers myself.

That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!
