Mega pix is about it most haev a mem card that you can swap out ( 2 gb is loads) size and weight then are th enext options you dont want it bulging out of yoru pocket . Cannon do a really nice slim one in black or red .
Cheers for that I have since learnt that Optical lenses are better than digital ones and that anything around 6 is good for an optical lense.
So in brief
Small
Above 8 Mega Pixels
Above 6 x Optical Lense

just to confirm ...you'll not get an 8mp camera for 150 yoyos.
Doubling the budget is still even a wee bit conservative. I'd guess closer to 400 quid. But as ORA said -you don't need 8mp.

I got a Kodak 7.1MP for €159 last week. They were selling them on special offer in Currys, PC World and Dixons. I think I saw the same ad in last Sundays paper so they probably still have some more

One with a passport build inside it would be handy too for the lads I go with.

if you have not got one yet there is a very good one at dixons for e140. over 8 mp and in my opinion would be more than ideal for what you want it for

I'd like to point out that this is only an opinion.
Those of you who know me, will probably have seen me with a camera at one point or another. It's a big one, so it's hard to miss.
Given its size, it wasn't always practical to have it with me. As a result, I went in search of a Point & Shoot, that I could stick in my pocket.
The camera I settled on was the Samsung NV10.
It's an absolute gem!
10Mp, rechargable battery, which can be charged off the USB port on my laptop. Very little shutter lag. Sturdy metal body. Good quality images and smart touch menus, which I absolutely love!
Great camera, which I'd gladly recommend.
Have Boot Disk, will travel
Generally cameras are alot cheap abroad, in Spain and Italy they can sometimes be nearly half the price.
One feature on a camera thats good (if you are increasing you budget) is a view finder as the LCD flahs the battery in most cameras. And more often than not you can zoom in with a view finder too.
Make sure to get at least a gig+ card, and check out the batteries too, rechargeable batteries will wreck your head after a while.
