NI Assembly to start Cruxifying Illegal Dumpers

...well not quite. But they're doubling the fines for illegal dumping (can lighten the pocket by STG £50,000 when this becomes law) and 5 year prison terms will be on the cards too.

Fair play to them. I don't think this goes far enough but it's a good deal better than the situation down here where the deterents are derisory sums.

Apparently it will cost upwards of 50,000,000 to clean up the waste dumped in NI illegally that originated in this jurisdiction!!!

I posted before about how ridiculously easy it is to get into the waste business here. For in and around a grand you're legitimately set up and licenced. There are few evident restrictions in vehicle type, suitability etc... which is why you see a plethora of flat back/bucket back/dodgily modified Dynas around the place.

Moreover -posting a whopper of a bond should be compulsory before you can start trading ...and not just a couple of grand either -it should be the value of a mortgage. €250,000 maybe.

Remember a while back seeing something on the news about illegal dumping of waste from the south in the North as it was easier/cheaper to do. But if a lot of this illegal dumping is being carried out by individuals/companies from the South then surely these laws won't affect them!

Thought this was going to be a thread about the dangers of giving Fundamentalist Christians government power

Actually, now that I think of it, I can just dig up one of the ones about the Iraq war
