Here is a league of leagues http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_co...ue_coefficient
Just to add to the debate.

I'll quote the bits it says it has the highest occupancy and most viewed league in the world.
'We have the highest occupancy levels at stadia of any league in Europe and the Premiership is the most watched league in the world," he told BBC Sport.
"It's also very early in the season to start talking about declining attendances - they always grow as the season progresses.
"On average, attendances are 90% of capacity and are up 65% since the start of the Premiership." '

In fact, how about typing
'The most watched league in the world' into google and it will spring up all over the place, that it is indeed the Premiership

Not saying the Premiership is a bad league or anything now but when people resort to using attendances and viewing figures to show why it's a super duper one, you know they're losing the argument.![]()
"Life is like a hair on a toilet seat. Sooner or later you are bound to get pi$$ed off."
"In this league, a draw is sometimes as good as a win" - Steve Morison
How is that losing an arguement?
If people enjoy it, they watch it. People wouldn't watch things they don't enjoy. It makes no sense to suggest otherwise.
The majority of people on this island who follow football, would watch English football over local football because English football is infinately better in terms of standard. The production is also better.
You also get to watch big names and see great goals and fantastic talents like Henry, Ronaldo, Rooney, Drogba.
The likes of O'Donavan, Glenn Ferguson, Ndo, farrelly & Glenn Crowe is hardly going to inspire thousands to turn up.(this is no slight on any of the players mentioned, they are the bigger named players in the local scenes, just making a point)
English football is definatly one of the best 3 leagues in Europe. It is matter of opinion which order they go in, but England, Spain and Italy are the 3 tops ones.

My point was, and is, that just bacuse something is hugely popular does not mean it must be good. Your original post implies that if something is watched by millions, those people cannot (your word) be wrong, and the quality must be high.
This was my original post -
Note I didnt say it wasnt good (in fact, rearlier in this thread, here, I argued that is is one of the best leagues in europe in terms of getting resulst, I just said that popularity and quality are not always the same.Just because something is popular does not make it good (or bad either)

100s of millions watch WWE!
The English Premier League is obviously one of the top leagues in the world and anyone who argues otherwise is just talking nonsense. But just because its popular doesn't make it better, and using that as a barometer is just daft.
The way to judge is it on club performances in Europe, and player representation at major international tournaments.
Who cares, anyway? If people's sole reason for liking one league is because it's 'the best', they're just infantile.
Well said osarusan... or to put it another way Steve Bruce if you happen to like music... that would mean that every song that makes number 1 is a classic, which it patently isn't! A lot of sh1t tops the pop charts....
Or to put it another way that the News Of The World is a quality Sunday Newspaper.....
As regards games being well attended, crowds were waining in the 1980's thanks to delapidated stadia and violence. The Taylor Report and the increase in ticketing prices because of the removal of terracing has a lot to do with redressing that.
Old Trafford for example is the field of dreams. People want to see the stadium, visit the museum , buy schlock in the club shop . Going to the match becomes almost incidental. And they have so many '' fans'' overseas that they could have a complete change of personnel in attendance every week and still fill the place. I believe that would happen even if United were getting poor results. Because when they got relegated in 1974, they had sell out attendances during their one and only season in the 2nd Division ( now known as the Coca Cola Championship for all you people too young to remember anything!)
Second rate to what anyway? What does Lalas consider first rate? And in what context?
Technically La Liga is probably best. In terms of competitiveness The Championship is hard to beat. Very few leagues have more than 2 teams contending the title. Spain had 3 at the latter end of the season.
Premiership is probably the second or third best league in the world. Would Lalas say the third best team in the world was second rate?
Stupid remark in the first place. We all know the Premiership's limitations / weaknesses but it's a very strong league in almost any objective criterion.
