    Thumbs down Tv Coverage

who is deciding what matches to show
i am going to cancel my setanta subscription
considering the mundane football that is shown why do rovers never get on tv home or away
we have been involved in some of the best athmosphere and football games this season for example 4-1 v cork at home 2-1 v bohs at home and 3-2 v shams away. i know these are only winning games but drogs at home , galway away and bohs away were also tv worthy
if we were playing hoofball football i could understand but the standard at the moment is very high

Well firstly we can't get a home live broadcasted match because we have no TV Gantry. Secondly i don't have a clue about our away games. Seems scandless a UCD game get shown and we don't. Sure UCD have a miniture fan base.

I can remember reading somewhere last week that the Rovers are in talks with some company (TV Station) about putting up a permanent TV gantry above the Jinks Stand.
I cannot remember it all but that was the jist of it.

Get over yourself. We've as much right to be on telly as anyone else.

Pretty much all of the Premier sides were on telly once last year (with the possible exception of Waterford). You'll have one game at least. We're only half way through yet.

Ah, Pineapple, it's rewarding to know that the tax payer's money is not being wasted on your education. Midget, keep the head down, these ones are a menace to society until they graduate.

This is absolutely pathetic - its no wonder sponsorship in dublin is far greater than that of the provinces as the TV cameras and probably journalists never seem to leave the pale and when they do it is always showing a dublin team!!! Is there no rules in the TV agreement that every team must appear at least a certain number of times like in the english sky deal?
In a 12 team league Sligo, Longford and Waterford do not appear at all....this is ridiculous!!!!!

    Who says I'm in college?

When UCD fans leave college, do they change club?

When UCD fans are in sixth year in school, how does that work?

Fair is fair now Avvenalaf, I've seen a few of the UCDD lads before matches in the bar in the Montrose and they look alot older than your normal students, so i'm guessing they are past pupils.

Either that or they failed 1st year more times than i did

    Angry

i did not want this to descend into a slagging match against ucd supporters. i just wonder if the tail is wagging to dog when it comes to picking tv matches . these league promotion officers (or dare i say, even higher authorities) have a lot to answer for as they have not given the so called unfashionable teams a fair crack of the whip. if we are to sell tv rights for our league , it should not be cherry picking matches.
AFAIK skys agreement with the english premier league insists that all teams are shown a minimum of 6 live games.
i have therefore cancelled the setanta subscription and would encourage all other disgruntled supporters to do likewise.
i dont want to lay the blame directly at the promotion officers but i would question their voice at a higher level if they cant get their clubs equal tv rights.
maybe employing these is more lip service by the eircom league.
can we please have a bit of variety(or is this too much to ask)

Pineapple, this descended below craic. Feck off, lads. UCD are a fine example of what can be achieved with a good manager and players with the right attitude.

You're way, way off the mark

    1) There is no seperate TV gantry in the showgrounds
    2) The TV packages in England show over 130 live games a season. Off this they have to only show the smaller sides 6 times, and then they usually show them against the bigger sides. It is exactly the same in every country in the world. Even in countries with saturation coverage you will rarely see mid table teams play each other
    3) The league is less than half way though the season and already teams like UCD, Waterford and Galway have been on (or announced) - No offence to those clubs BTW
    4) The promotion officers, and indeed the clubs, have NO say at all as to whether they get on TV. Cork chairman Brian lennoix was actually complaining about being on TV when they playeed us on a Thursday
    5) The highest quality (potentially) should be on TV each week. If that means showing Cork ten times and Pats once, so be it. We (as a league) can barely muster any excitement in the casual fan by showing him/her our best, what do you think showing them some sub-standard stuff will do?

Like Bohs/Drogheda in the cup you mean? A borefest. It was obvious it was gonna be either 0-0 or 1-0 to a side. Our game with shams should have been on instead of that.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
