That's from Athlone's website, and if it's anything like a lot of eL websites, that's based on a quick worth with a random club official or a guess. Regardless, "argued too much"? He was booked before he had time to say more than a few words. If it was dissent, it was something pretty abusive. It doesn't look right to me.

id say when the ref back into the player, the shels lad must have said something, it was a second yellow, if it was for pushing the ref it would have been a straight red.

Just looked at the video again. If he said anything, he wasn't obvious about it - obviously it's hard to tell given the resolution of the footage, but his body language doesn't suggest someone swearing heatedly or anything like that until the ref books him.Originally Posted by neville neville

When the bans are handed out for Red cards they also look at if a player has been sent of before. So looking at that it seems that he got two matches for dissent.
Definitely not for pushing though as he would have been on report and up in front of the disciplinary board and I believe assault on a referee carries a minimum of a 1 year suspension.
It was hardly assault! The ref is just plain acting the ******** at this stage. Our goalkeeping coach was given a restraining order too.

I think the referee f*cked up by sending Murphy off and just said it was dissent. I was at the game and a lot closer than the camera and as far as i'm concerned he said nothing.
