The 1994 team exuded maturity, presence and moral stature.
A lot of today's players have more ability but have been corrupted by the rich pickings in top tier club football, giving them a false sense of status. Kerr couldn't command their respect and it's debatable whether Staunton does given the large number of no-shows for the US trip, but I think we're turning a corner again in this regard.

That USA 94 team was past its sell by date. Razor just about got in the squad and many of the players were nearing the end of their careers. '92 was the tournament we could have done something but that's life.
I appeared twice on TV in crowd shots at the gamebut if you ask me to compare Giant Stadium vs Stuttgart, I'd go for the latter any time (also appear in crowd shot there clapping). First tournament. First game and it's England. We win and it was before every tom, dick and harry took an interest in the team. The fans who had followed through thick and thin were in Stuttgart in 1988 and it was magical.

Moran and Whelan were both in the squad, but were both also seriously on their last legs. Whelan played in the Norway match, Moran didn't get on at all.
McGrath and Dunne would be fantastic at the centre for Ireland, Dunne is hopelessly underated by English clubs/media.
No he's not. They see him as a decent to good centre half.

88 against England for me. Simply because of the torture we as fans had endured right up to Scotland beating Bulgaria. And the atmosphere in Stuttgart to me was more electric than Giants Stadium. In 94 we missed having a fully fit Cascarino and Quinn.
Pagliuca's still playing in Serie A at 40 too; played 21 games for Ascoli last year and is only behind Paolo Maldini in terms of Serie A games. Remarkable record.
never made it to giants stadium - waiting for the green card to come here permanently. I give thanks every day for being present in stuttgart. The ball sailing over shilton's head, the rustle of the net, the fookin explosion on the terrace. I remember one german policeman with an alsatian dog who was watching us turned around to lok at the field, and even the mutt was cheering!! mighty.
