I see Norwich are trying to sign Sharpe. With Earnshaw, I think they'll have the best strikeforce in the Championship. Hopefully Renton and byrne continue to make good progress.

On the subject of Norwich, there's a young English lad called Danny Kelly or something who declared for us. He's meant to be very good. I think England schoolboys wanted him, but he turned them down.

Also you should take a look at where Chelsea have invested their money in recent weeks. I'm not saying these are shrewd investments, clearly they are not fortunate enough to have you advising them on their purchases.

I'm a little surprised that all bar danonion believe Shay Given will have shuffled off the international stage in 7 years. You'd certainly hope that others will challenge for the shirt and maybe even dislodge him. But he appears to be a model professional and there's no reason why, at 38, he couldn't be a top flight keeper.

He did write "not even that great a keeper anymore" all those games were played in the past so he has to prove that he's still the keeper he was.However, I believe he's still got a good five years at the highest level. It might be pushing it a bit to say he'll still be our number one in 7 years time. Although I can still see him being a capable club keeper at 38. I would hope internationally that some of the younger would be hot on his heels before then but if not that would mean he is still doing the business and there's the possibility that he would be in Ireland's squad as our no. 2. BTW Lionel Ritchie, Kahn hasn't been Germany's clear number one for a few years now.
Kahn played his last competetive game for Germany last summer at the world cup aged 37. I acknowledge he wasn't Germanys no.1 at that stage but put it this way ...if Kahn was Irish then he'd be in and around our squad til he picked up his bus pass. It being the case that we'll never have the pool of players the likes of Germany get to pick from -it's not unreasonable to suppose an Irish keeper in his later 30's who's got two decades of experience at the top (or even a high) level behind him would be considered for the squad. Nick Colgan is 34, has scarcely set the world alight (did he ever play first team for Chelsea?) and still gets called up.

Yeah sorry, re-reading your post you meant that Given would still be on the international scene in 7 years time, not necessarily that he would be no 1. I agree with that. However, I think that Given is very proud/competitive and once he sees himself as no. 2 he will quickly retire from the international scene and not hang around for a few years for the odd game like Kahn. He doesn't take being second too well, which was shown by his transfer request at Newcastle after Harper held onto his starting place when Given returned from an injury a few years ago.
